I have not... for that model, I like all the glory of SS! So, no plans there. The Hi Beams, IMO, are just about perfect for that particular model to my ear.

The RA though... the jury is still out. I might try a set of Lo Rider nickels on that bass to tame the click and bring out a little more growl and upper mid/lower treble. I have Hi Beams on the RA on the clip I posted earlier in this thread, and I'm not sure that is the best match for the voicing of that instrument... although now that they are broken in a bit more, it sounds pretty darn good!

I absolutely love the headstock, but it is a unique enough design component that it does not surprise me that some don't dig it. That's why there are many different looks and brands.

However, I will say I did not dig the headstock design much in the pictures, but took the plunge on one anyway a while back, and 'in person', the look is quite a bit different.

Pure aesthetic choice, and I know what you mean. For example, I can hardly look at that Nordy headstock, but many love it. That's what makes the world go round

+1, the headstock looks great in person. Besides, you'll forget about the headstock completely after the first note

She is a beauty and every person who has played her has called her the best bass they have ever played...I have a local kid who is really wanting to buy her some kind of bad. He is a 20 year old prodigy and has used her on some sessions I am recording now and is loving her! She is currently wearing flats and sounds phenomenal on everything we are using her on. The Nitro finish was shot by the guy from Fender and the Dabergia is like a candy bar....In a word STUNNING!

no fake relicing for me... i am slightly rough on them. but it goes to prove they can take a lickin and keep on tickin...
My NYC sadowsky has a few love bites, but th e poly takes it better.. the next AC i get will be a Poly finish JJ4 style..

Kirk... dude I thought you were a cool cat before, but when I saw your road worn AC4 - that confirmed it... Made me want to give my Sado 5/24 or beating...

Me too! It's still currently guard-less, tho I'm still thinking I may put it on someday. We'll see.

I've gone back and forth on this.

I've typically cut my strings shorter than that, but then Jimmy once told me he never cuts his strings. I got to thinking, the main difference outside of the hassle during string-up, is you're adding more mass to the headstock, which might have a musical benefit.

This picture is from when I first got it, which means it's actually Jimmy's stringing, but it's currently strung similarly anyway.

The Jury's still out if I'm noticing a difference, but at least it's certainly not causing any problems, so it's a bit of a longer term experiment at this point over several sets of strings.

Mine are just standard . I'm trying to understand the logic of why this would be a good idea (or matter)? What's the theory behind this?

Those progressives tuning posts look real cool! As for the cutting of strings I believe there was an article in BP that mentioned that Nathan East also never cuts his strings.
