This may be off topic, but i was looking for AC videos on the web, and between paul turner's rig shots and Kirk's (on this thread a lot), that's two guys using the REDDI. I'm curious what the point of a REDDI is? Or an Avalon U5 i see some guys using. Is it just to add extra preamp options or something?
Also, what strings would you guys recommend for an LG5? What does Jimmy usually slap on there when he ships them?

I switched from DR nickel low-riders back to D'Addario XL170 bright nickels on my LG5. I really love the XL170s. Every few months I'll try another brand, but I always come back to the XL170s. They sound great on my KBP5 as well.
Those are both high end DI's, and are used to 'flavor' the tone of a direct sent to a PA (in their cases, a high end front of the house system, or direct to a board in a recording studio). The REDDI is a tube unit that adds 'tube warmth' to a direct signal. The U5 is a super high quality solid state DI with tone shaping options.
Per our PM's, I use DR Lo Rider Nickels on my LG and RA.

The Alleva's ended bass gas for me. I'd been been through a number of basses before I bought my LG-5 two years ago. I ordered a KBP-5 a month later and since then I've been free of bass gas. I sold off my other basses except for a '72 franken P. I still have a problem with effects but at least it's a cheaper habit.

What he said. I still look at other basses but it's just for fun. Playing the AC's have become GASex.

I haven't posted on TB in ages and its also my first time here on the Alleva Coppolo thread.
I've heard a lot about Jimmy's basses in the past and I was also able to go to his shop when I was in NYC in 2004 when it was still the Guitar and Bass Boutique. Lots of cats have told me how great these basses are and that they capture the vintage vibe. I never got to play any of his basses until we had a So Bass Hang last October. Jimmy showed up with 2 basses and everything that everyone told me about his stuff was true! I loved what I played and heard that day. This experience made me decide to order a bass from Jimmy. Also my good friends, Ed and Yohann, ordered their basses.
This is gonna be a long picture heavy post since I would like to share our first hand Alleva Coppolo experience with master luthier and friend Jimmy Coppolo. Jimmy's given us the opportunity to come by the shop and experience the whole bass building process. We are also giving him a hand with the making of our basses. All the woodwork on Alleva Coppolo basses are done in house by Jimmy Coppolo. There is no outsourcing of bodies and necks here.

The new body style is a little bit bigger - about 1/4" all around. Jimmy decided on this to make the 5 string neck look more proportionate.
As you all saw I'm a pretty big dude so I was all about the bigger body when Jimmy told me about it!
And on those pics where we're holding the cut bodies... It looks like we're proud dads coming out of the OR.
