Cool! Yeah I know he's gotta be really busy so I'm not gonna bother him at all. I wish I could make it to the NAMM show! But it's right at the beginning of tax season so I know I won't be able to get time off work.

I've got a couple of new secrets coming down at NAMM with my LM5 too. But it is an LM5 still.

Man I hope he is making you a PJ5 with a P body!

I played the LG for a bit...seems nice so far.
Right now, she's unstrung, and I'm cleaning the board, putting a little foam under the pickups so I can get them up where I want them, and then I'll run a setup.

Just a couple of brief thoughts:
I didn't pick up anything else last night til right before I went to bed.
In it's own context, the Alleva neck feels great. Compared to my RV5, the neck feels a tad wider. This does nothing to diminish it's comfort or playability, just noting.

It sounds "very organic" compared to the other active JJ's I've become accustomed to over the last year or so (see sig line).

Sonically, it kinda "lays low" til you really dig in on it, and then it says "yeah, I've got snap, you just gotta ask for it." For this reason, I may move away from the DA nickels that are on it and go to something a little brighter...but, I'll use it in a band context first.
This is probably in large measure because I've become really addicted to the whole Sadowsky thing lately. The LG is very audibly different from that...neither good nor bad by nature, just a different thing.

On a strap, it seems "to lay a little more to the left" for some reason. I find myself kludging around on it instead of being able to accurately shift from one position to another without looking; especially in the lower positions. I play with my eyes closed a lot, so that matters to me. Dunno why that would be, the top strap button seems to be at 12th position "like most basses," so maybe the tail end of the body is a bit longer than my other JJ's...or, maybe I was just a dork last night;) Probably just "an acclimation thing."

The preamp is overall very subtle, and you can use a lot of it without it "sounding active" if you care to. You don't need to though, which is nice.

+1 to the above.... organic, old school, vintage tone. Wonderful stuff. Again, IMO if you want more snap, get an LM. I didn't dig the LG's with stainless at all.... yes, more sizzly, but not in a good way to my ear. That's just not what this spec is about IMO.

Regarding the wider neck feel than the Sadowsky, this is true, due to all that extra 'wood' that Jimmy has outside the B and G strings. The spacing seems identical to the Sadowsky, but there is just more 'meat' to the neck, given the additional space on the outside edges of the neck. I dig that.

Regarding 'sitting a little more to the left', I agree, and attribute that to the full size J body versus the reduced size J body of the Sadowsky, which moves first position just ever so slightly closer to your body IMO and IME.

Even with the single coils installed, a Sadowsky RV will be MUCH brighter, more aggressive and active sounding than the A-C LG, and even more so if you have the stock Dimarzio/Sadowsky HC's installed.

That should be a great bass for you. I would recommend not trying to make it what it is not though. I didn't 'fall in love' with my LG until I got those nickels on there and let them 'deaden up' a bit, which really allowed that spec to speak the way it was designed (like an old 60's era Fender J).

Pure IMO there. I love the aggressive snap and upper mid grind and brightness of my LM with stainless steel roundwounds, and equally love the warm, round low end, lower mid growl, and organic, smooth, polite top end of the LG with broken-in nickels and the passive tone control dialed back quite a bit. That, to me, allows these two specs to really 'be what they are' to my ear.:bassist:
