Literally, just as Vision said, just taking a break from TB. I still talk to him regularly and all is well with him.

I can definitely understand folks missing his contributions, as well. I can't/won't speak for him, so I don't know what the future holds, but I can say he's still whumpin' and thumpin' on bass and his business is doing fine, so life is good.

Funny thing is I'm spending the day playing and saying goodbye to my LG5 with delbergia,,,,absolutely great bass.It goes in the mail tomorrow. Oh well..time marches on...There will be a new bass in it's place.

Hey V, I'm a DC guy with an LG5... I'll PM you and maybe we can hammer something out.
Ok, I'm starting to get AC gas again. I previously owned a LG5 and the RA5 kjung has now. Besides my LEJ's, the AC is the only other bass I want right now. At the time I had them, the AC didn't cut well in the mix for me, but I've learned to accept it for what it is. I've been trying out vintage fender J's and P's, but can't afford the $10,000 price on a 60's P. Also, I like 5 strings better. The AC is the closet thing to a vintage fender. I would get a LM5, cause it has more of the bite that I prefer.
Ok guys so I'm a jazz bass guy no question or was? I happen to come across the perfect KBP5 almost a year ago now, Dalbergia board and a set of Jamerson flats. I have brought it to many gigs and sub'd it in and have done plenty of jazz stuff with it. But never really made a commitment to a big gig until last night.
I play in a pretty big band, 4 horns, 4 singers and the rhythm section doing Stevie Wonder, Motown, EFR, Chicago all the way up to some of the newest Dave Matthew and Alicia Keys tunes. So I was having a lot of fun until we got to the EWF tunes that's the one area where I really would have liked my LG5 but I worked through it.
Last nights gig was at a really big Long Island club with a huge line out the door. I'll admit I was having fun using the KBP5 in a sort of novelty type of way, don't get me wrong on some tunes it was perfect and on others I would have preferred a jazz. So in the second set the girl that subbed for me when my wife had the baby came up to play a few tunes, Kool and the Gang Medley and Ants Marching by Dave Matthews. HOLY CRAP, standing out front this bass sounded unreal, seriously perfect. It fit in the mix, cut through well and didn't over power anything. I should mention my stage volume wasn't all that loud and everything outfront was coming from the house PA, where the sound guy insisted on using his Whirlwind DI, which I didn't bother fighting.
Man I am impressed, if I didn't have the opportunity to hear this out in the audience I probably would have just gone along my way and not thought to much about it. But man she'll be making more apprearences at least until the LM arrives..
Jimmy really does need to get on the P/J band wagon, I am sure it would kill in it's own way.

EXACTLY like you, I've always been, and will always be primarily a J style bass player. HOWEVER, I went and listened to a buddy's band a while back and he was playing a straight up USA Fender P. Wow. Those woody organic mids, and the punch of that little series wired pickup just blew my mind. Ever since then I've vowed I'd always have at least one P bass in my stable. Currently I'm solving that with a PJ, and it's really working out well... and even tho I have that other pickup there, I DO solo that P pickup regularly when I play it, AND, even in blended mode, you can really hear that earthy tone coming through.
In short, yeah, I'm a fan, too.
Vic I am assuming your PJ is a Sadowsky...Two questions, where is the J located 60s or 70s spacing and is there a standard for what most guys prefer? Secondly I don't understand why most of the PJs are on J bodies while the majority of originally modded Fenders were Ps with an added J pickup?
In any case I wish someone could convince Jimmy to do a PJ on a P body.

I've talked to Jimmy about a PJ and he's open to it, no convincing needed. I think it's just a matter of him finding the time and sitting down to get a prototype hum-cancelling J pickup going. I'm sure we'll see it in due time.
I have high hopes for this one, my last PJ was a Lull 5 and didn't like the blended tone of both pickups full on (remember all my rewire questions Vic???). I solo'd the P most of the time cause that's the sound I got it for. But the J never really felt balanced with the P pickup.
I hope to experience the prototyping first hand as I know what I want in a PJ and am fully confident Jimmy wouldn't put anything out that we all wouldn't be thrilled with.
