Ok, so a couple posters have said something like this, and it kinda' puzzles me... heavy compared to what? Anything really reasonably comparable? IMHO, I find the Slim to be not heavy at all, and even fairly light especially for what it is.

I can say +1 to that......I have never had a bag that protects as well as the Slim so I guess it may have been shell shock or whatever.....Kevlar is heavier than a cotton T-shirt, but the T-shirt ain't stoppin' a bullet either...I guess one would have to expect added weight for added protection........The thing is a tank for certain......
Bought one for my Reverend before I came overseas, and just found out that my Bee Stinger is going to be shipped in one. The pocket space is a bit lacking (particularly compared to the inCase and PortaBag, although I've never used those), but it's a very well thought-out bag in terms of the design and materials used. They're quite light at a bit under 6lbs, and the outer material is supposedly waterproof, which is a nice feature IMO.
I'd still like to try an inCase or PortaBag, but I'm liking my Mono too.

I agree with the amp part, but I would never do that anyway. And I would NEVER put an amp in a thin, unprotected pocket like the A-C bag. However, if you use the pocket as most typically do, cables, sheet music, straps, strings, etc., etc., it's the most useful pocket I've had, versus the more typically designed pouches where everything falls to the bottom.
I tried my F1 in the Portabag, and by the time I put it in there with the extra cables, the extension cord and the other stuff I carry in the pouch on my small amp bag, it ended up adding enough weight as to be uncomfortable.

The new Slim that I tried out was significantly heavier than the old Slim and the Portabag, most likely due to the backpack system. The old Slim is also a little heavier than the Portabag.
I also agree about the storage space on both Slims - the way that large front pocket is shaped with the internal structure makes it difficult to actually open it all the way to get stuff in there. The Portabag's flap style front pocket is easy to zip all the way open and flap down.
I haven't checked out the Mono cases yet, but they wouldn't work for me because they don't have a higher strap position available like on the Slim and Portabag. Since I'm 6'5", I would have to crawl on my knees to get through a doorway with one of those!
The Portabag is by far the best bag I've tried overall. It's the lightest of these hybrids, and has plenty of accessable space. The only problem I ever had with it was one of the strap clips breaking (this happened to a couple other guys as well). But I emailed Roger and he sent me new brand new straps which seem to be designed with sturdier clips, free of charge.

You're right. I didn't realize it was only Velcro that holds the extra padding on. Now the A-C fits right nice like. Thanks for the handy tip.

...except I didn't know the new Slims were heavier... interesting... I have both the new and old DUBs, but only a pair of the older Slims. I briefly had one of the newer Slims, but didn't notice the weight diff.

I actually also slightly prefer the old DUB, so that one stays with me until it falls apart... it's just a teensy bit bigger, so it fits more basses just a tad easier. The new one does work fine, but it is a bit snug for some basses.
Oh, yeah, and Alleva Coppolos fit it just fine too, and of course none of their bags damage nitro finishes.
I don't think there is another option. It's not a cheap bag by any means, just a very standard bag, similar to the bags used by Lakland for the Skyline line of instruments. The simple, no frills bag kind of fits that 'working bassists old school vibe'.

Actually, the bag I got with my new KPB-5 was MUCH nicer than the Lakland Skyline bag I have. The only reason I'm not using the bag I got from Jimmy is that I scored one the the leather LowEnd bags and moved my Lakland into the Skyline bag I got for free.
IMHO, there is NOTHING wrong with the bag I got from Jimmy but you can get better if you pay a lot more.

I don't think anyone is saying there's something specifically wrong with the AC bag... only that it's just not a design that offers the level of protection most people would want for a $3-5K bass, is all... especially for shipping.
It should be a moot point soon anyway tho.
Have patience man ... Jimmy's a bit overworked by the move to CA.
Lots to do and it's ALL done by him.
I've been staying on him about it and am guessing that if all goes well that there should be a new bag or case by the NAMM show in January or shortly there after.
