It's hard to evaluate a line of instruments on a sample size of one:smug: There is such variation across different instruments within the same line. I would assume the tone profile that most of us are describing with the LG is the typical one, since the LG really is designed to 'mimic' that slightly pre-CBS sort of lightweight, airy, Fender tone. However, I'm sure there are some that are a touch heavier, and for a variety of other reasons, move the tone toward a more aggressive profile.

I'm pretty sure it will be smoking one way or the other, and a little bit of EQ and string choice can do wonders to warm up an aggressive instrument, and punch up a more mellow one.

I love that bass! Blocks and binding have always been a touch much for me personally, but that binding just looks sweet, and still nice a subtle with the dots. I really like that bass:D

Hi Dave,
Well unfortunately the cost on the models that are available now will be increasing a little bit some time this January. However I am planning on offering a slightly less expensive "No Frills" (for a lack of a better term) model, that just maybe more affordable to players on a tighter budget. The prototype will be exhibited at the January '09 NAMM show... and yes for those of you out there guessing the model name it will be the NF5:smug:. Specs. and pricing TBA.

Yup! Looks just like my baby but w/o the binding.

I have to echo Vic's sentiments about the bass...totally smokin'...and I think that's a combination of the bent plate bridge, the DN, and Jimmy's mojo workin'.

When I played that bass at Jimmy's shop I was also expecting that "pillowy" early J's sound which I really don't like, but my LG seems to have enough of that fatness with just a touch of grind to make it what I've been looking for.

I've been playing it at church and through the Aviom in ear system we have on stage it totally smokes. I've played a lot of basses through that system and it kills.

When it sits in a mix through my rig it isn't cutting the mix in a piercing midrangey sort of way, but in a fat punchy, knock your walls over kind of way.

I dig it.

Sweet. It seems we are all pretty much thrilled with our basses! Even Tommix loves all the ones he's sold:smug::p

I sure do like that LG that Pete has though. It sits kind of right in the middle between my LM and LG. That's a nice 'sonic space' for a main instrument. I could be very happy with that one as my only instrument. It's a little fatter sounding than my LM, and a touch brighter and 'quicker' than my LG. That's a nice combination for a 'one instrument does it all' sort of thing.

Allot to read today and my wife has me working pretty hard around the house...

I do like more of the March-May '62 sound (:eek:kidding) I was hoping my LG5 would be a little more to the 60's then 70s side but it is what it is and sounds darn good. We're talking souch subtle differences in these basses that most may think we're crazy.

My Lakland JO is dead on early mid 60s or at least at this point what I imagine they as a group would sound like. The LG certainly has a little disco fever, it's funny how to me it actually sounds bad with Nickels and great with the DR hi beams.

I can't ad much but I did enjoy the two pages of discussion that happened today. I will add that not enough time is spent discussing pickup height. It took two years for me to dial it in on the JO and now I actually put a sticky on the pickguard so during it's annual physical nobody even thinks of touching the pickup height. What I really need are one of those nifty micro scientific measuring device things (I know I'm an idiot) not sure what it's called. A final note the pole pieces in my LG are below the height of the pickup cover while the Fralins are sticking out, another adjustment as the LG seems to have the pickup closer to the string when in fact it is somewhat of an illusion.

I may not have made much sense I inhaled allot of paint fumes today!

Wow... Everytime I see that bass it just makes me wig out! So nice! The binding and dots with the DN board are just insane.

Very cool, Jimmy! Looking forward to the NAMM basses and the new site. I think it'll help alleviate some of the confusion regarding models and options.
