why not just take it to a professional? i bet for a 150 you could get it playing like any boutique bass. theres a reason these cost 1150, not 4k and yet small money will get the playability there.

I have a question for anyone that has an Ice Blue A-C.
The pics I posted are REALLY close to the actual color
of my bass. They were taken inside and at night.:eyebrow:
How close is it to the color of your Ice Blue A-C?
I have 3 white with tort basses so the Ice blue is
a nice change.

That's good advice. I have actually have been thinking about doing that. I really like it and I'm not giving up on it any time
soon.:)

Those Ice Blue RA-5's are insane! I'm not sure which RA-5 color scheme I like better. Olympic White with a tort guard or Ice Blue and parchment. The maple board and black blocks and binding go great with either. That would be a real hard decision to make if I were to buy one.

I'd say it's close to mine. Mine has a tort guard so it makes it look different to me. The pic in my sig is pretty close to mine as well.

+1, which is why I used the words 'primarily' and 'overlap'. Most of us can get a 'good enough' sound playing any style on virtually any bass (there is a classic clip somewhere of my buddy Mikebass slapping the heck out of an old Gretsch semi hollow body bass with old flats on it, and it sounds killin'). However, if you really gravitate to a specific style or tone goal, it's much easier to get there IMO with an instrument put together to maximize that particular tone. To me, there is nothing quite like the bounce and 'quick response' (IMO due to the upper mid content) you get with a moderately heavy body and a maple board. Also, there is nothing quite as 'sweet' sounding playing fingerstyle than a relatively light alder body and a nice rosewood board.... with that little bit of give in the feel and that very smooth mid mid response to my ear.

The RA models are interesting. My guess is, they would be closer to the LM than the LG in general, but I've never played one.

I'll see what I can do on Monday. I'll be home, and have the house to myself, and will have my office closed:) Does anyone know the 'MP3 equivalent' of Photobucket (i.e., a simple, free or inexpensive site that you can use to host audio clips?). I am again pretty clueless about posting audio clips.

Edit: My buddy Wilbyman turned me on to icompositions.com. So, that should work. I'll see what I can do. I will record a few clips of various styles of playing with the LM and LG through a couple of different rigs (probably the TecAmp for 'smooth and accurate', and the F1/AE410 for grindy jazz goodness). So, the clips will by definition be 'colored' by an amp and speaker, but that's the only capability I have at this point.

Good luck with the clips, I don't see anything wrong with recording through the amp/cab as opposed to direct. All sound is "colored" and if the point is to compare the LM and LG, you will at least have the "same" coloration.

I might add to this that, while rosewood and alder can sound sweet, I am personally gratified by the incredible combination of alder and ebony for fingerstyle. I love that aggressive top end grind and throatiness of that combination...perhaps the dalberia is simiar...but ebony is plentiful...

And of course, this is an AC thread, carry one...

And....

+1 While 'ebony' and Jazz Bass isn't a typical combination, an ebony board on a more modern bass with a soft body wood like alder or Mahogany has that wonderful combination of fatness but with that ebony 'ping' at the beginning of the note attack that really defines 'articulate fingerstyle' for me. I dig that also!

OK, my first ever attempt at recording clips. I just set the Edirol on its little tripod about 2 feet in front of the Puma500/S212 rig and let her fly, along with a running commentary of settings, etc. I believe my recording level was way too low, but at least maybe you can get a sense as to what these two wonderful basses sound like

The Puma rig sucks a little bit of the grind out of both basses... it's really smooth, but hopefully you will get the idea.

Here's a picture of the 'test rig' and about a 6 minute clip playing different styles and settings on the LM5 and LG5, both with one day old DR Hi Beams.

Thanks! Also, Wilbyman pointed out in a PM, and I want to post it, that even though the difference in the sound of these basses is what I would call 'meaningful but subtle, the FEEL of the two basses is very different. The LM has that very unforgiving quickness and 'bounce' to it, while the LG almost feels like the note sinks into the bass a bit.
