Last few weeks is the longest.
I got mine in July and Im still finding new sounds and ways to play it. All his basses are amazing as you can tell from his now small but soon to be many owners.

Jimmy is definately doing something right. I find it cool that BP Mag. has taken notice of the fact that many seasoned pros are gravitating to his basses, and for good reason.
You guys are making me seriously consider selling my Stambaugh for one of these (the burst):

Paul Turner, Keith Duffy and Rufus Philpot - 3 great players together!!!! Incidentally, the Surf Green one is the bass Keith bought after seeing and playing it at the Jan 2007 NAMM show (where this pic was taken)

Haven't posted for a while on this thread.
Happy Holidays to my fellow Alleva users. I just wanted to say this bass continues to deliver for me... growly, punchy, lightweight, cool look, etc.
Since I'm obviously a gear head, a number of the players I run into regularly in my 'freelance' circuit are 'in tune' to all the stuff I try out on these gigs. They are pretty honest with their 'thumbs up or thumbs down' on various rigs and basses I try out. At this point, they are first surprised that the Alleva has been showing up on virtually every gig since I've owned it, and they totally dig it. I like to see the guys in the horn sections at the other side of the stage smile when that 'grrrroooowwwllll' jumps out of the lower notes on the E string when I dig in. This bass, and my NYC Sadowsky RV5 are pretty much the only basses anyone wants to hear me play anymore
I look forward to seeing pictures of Jimmy's 'NAMM spread' next month

I can understand why you'd be getting comments on the AC bass. After getting the chance to mess around with an LG5 the other night, it's easy to see what the fuss is all about. I am willing to bet that your LM5 really delivers in it's own way too. Seriously - if you're into a get together over the holiday season it would be cool to get you and Mitch and I together with those three instruments. Mitch's bass is simply a joy to play, and i'm equally happy with my RA5, and I can't imagine that your LM5 would be anything less than awesome. It would make for a pretty decent day methinks.
Toss in one of them new-fangled Thunderfunk 800 heads (would love to try one of them sometime), and it'd be a 3 day campout.

I'm unfortunately on the road either visiting family or gigging the entire Holiday week, starting tomorrow. However, I'd really like to come up for a hang soon. Let's try to figure it out. Weekdays are better for me, but there are a few weekends in the first quarter where I'm in town.
Let's PM after the Holidays and make it happen!
Edit: While I have no bass GAS at the moment, my guess is there is an RA5 in my future, so I'd love to check yours out!
As far as I can tell, the RA is an LM with an alder body, plus blocks and binding.
A quick question for you or anyone else on this thread - anybody found a particularly good set of strings? I put on a set of Fodera Victor Wooten nickels this morning (.40 - .120), and I think I like them a lot better. the old strings (D' Addario super steels .45 - .130) felt a little clanky to me.
Any thoughts?

Ah, that's right. It's the 'Modern' that is the LM with blocks. Cool!
I absolutely love the DR Hi Beams on the Alleva... bright, growly, but smooth with none of that upper mid gank your are describing and that I also hear with the Super Steels, the Lakland Steels, the original black label Sadowsky steels, etc.
The Hi Beams feel very smooth (almost like Nickel), but they are MUCH brighter than the Fodera Nickels.

They all have a certain character to it. I have not tried the Fodera's yet but i loved them on my NYC Sadowsky 5. The Dr's sound great both the low Riders and Hi Beams. Have the Hi Beams 125 on there now. So far there is always something about a string that one has and the other don't.

As usual he said someone will be calling me to fix it as they have done this and that for fender for years and blah blah blah. have not heard from them. But hey am i going to lose the character the bass now has? This ding probably will be the first of the next 200 it will see. But I hate having it. At least its not in the site on the bass while playing it. Can any of you Alleva Coppolo owners shed alittle sympathy for me?

Bummer on the ding, but as you know, these basses are made to be played. No sissy laminates, wood knobs, etc. The vintage look and feel of these basses demands a little roughing up on the gig! Consider it 'seasoning and the start of your own personal mojo'! I'm sure mine will get a little breaking in one of these days... it's part of the deal when you are really working a tool.

Mitch (basses55) also has the DR high beams on his LG5, and they feel and sound great. I will likely try a set after I tire out the Fodera nickels. I did a rehearsal this morning and the Fodera strings sounded and felt very nice too. They are a little more subdued than the high beams, but they feel good. The B string may be just a little light at .120.
30 - sucks on the ding man, but I have always found that after the initial sick feeling wears off, there is almost a sense of relief that you are no longer trying to stave off the inevitable. Mind you - I still don't look forward to the first one. I suppose you would also feel better about it if it hadn't been a product of someone else's cloddishness. I bet the guitard would have blown a nut if it had happened to his instrument... Ah well, such is life - maybe you are in for a banner Christmas.
