Hey everyone, I bought a roomboter yellow Bebop Degier with a body imperfection at the heel. The imperfection doesn’t bother me as it gives the bass a “it was intentionally made that way” vibe. However, I’m not bonding with the more passive leaning preamp. I’m an active jazz bass guy. Bass plays incredible and the build quality is definitely next level. If any of you have interest reach out to me. I haven’t had a chance to officially take pics and list it but I will be doing so.

I found that the preamp on my bebop loses its effectiveness when the battery is getting low. It maybe worth checking the battery in yours if you’re not getting boost in the bass. If you’re looking for midrange or high end boost then you’re right, the preamp isn’t for you.

Thank you for responding. It is working and I can totally see where someone would find this more subtle preamp desirable. I’m the opposite end of the “I love passive basses” spectrum.

It’s an incredible bass. Incredible enough that I’ve considered putting another preamp in it but I feel like I’d be doing it a disservice moving it away from the luthier’s origin approach.

I know of people who have put a preamp in a Bebop that are very happy with it, and I know Sander well enough to be confident to say he'd be happy if you'd put a preamp in it and play the hell out of it. If you like it otherwise, get a Noll or Aguilar preamp, squeeze it into the cavity and rock it.

I have a bebop with an east uni pre 4 installed. I love it. I have another bebop on the way with an east pre in it.
I also have a soulmate with the bass boost option from Sander, this has the more passive idea in mind. I like them both.

If you're not liking the passive option but like the bass, an east uni pre 4 works perfect. Can you post pics of your de gier?

Very nice man! I’ve always loved that green color. De Giers are the best. I’ve also got three. And am thinking of another…

I wish there were more activity on this thread! I'm quickly becoming a fan of Sander's work (and of the man himself--he's been great over email).

New member, here! Not exactly a NBD post though, since I’ve had it for over a month now. I bought this Glenn Gaddum Sig 5 from @PlayTheBass near the end of January. He’s an overall fantastic guy to deal with, and I’m very grateful to have gotten the opportunity to buy this bass from him.

Some things that caught my eye about this bass was that it wasn’t fully GG spec’d—it’s fully passive without the phat boost and it has a traditional maple neck rather than the 3-piece these normally get. Also, it sports a beautiful refin by Pat Wilkins on the headstock and body. The headstock color is actually a deep/dark brown that matches the edges of the sunburst—super cool!

I wanted to wait until I actually used it live before making a post. I got that chance a couple of weeks ago. Simply put…this thing is amazing! The Aero pups are part of the reason, but the bass itself sounds and feels acoustically different than others I’ve played. There’s more clarity overall and the G string has a great amount of heft. And I love that chords above the 12th fret are in tune even on the lower strings.

I was a bit wary bringing this bass to church since single coils always buzz like crazy, but the shielding work on this bass was top notch—just a minimal amount of buzz and I had no problem soloing the neck pickup when I wanted to. I also found it to be very responsive to right hand attack. It was smooth when I wanted that sound, and growly when I dug in; and I was surprised by how punchy and clear my palm muting came through. I was grinning from ear to ear the whole time (at least on the inside). The tight spacing is a bit different than what I normally go for, but the GG5 hasn’t been too difficult getting used to.

Any other GG Sig owners, here? Just curious.

This post made my day, Ricky! It was so good working with you, and there's nothing like facilitating a match between a bass I love and another player who also ends up loving it. Beautiful.

Just to officially weigh in, I still have my first GGJ Bebop, #7 overall, the original Steve McQueen Le Mans Bebop. Sander rocks! He really worked with me to get me what I wanted on this one, matching the Gulf livery perfectly.

This bass has been my #1 fiver since I got it. The string spacing, feel, and balance are still my all-time favorite in a 5-string.

Seems like Sander redesigned the headstock on the sly! Here's a pic taken from Bassbuddha's site. For better or for worse, the silhouette now leans toward a more traditional look, IMO.

Sander showed me the body in deep green finish (when I was at his workshop to order mine), looked great. I was really impressed with what he showed me with regard to his bass construction methods. We nerded out over basses, woods etc. for nearly two hours... Thanks BTW for the Basgasten podcast met Sander!

That's probably because of the Gotoh Res-o-lites tuners instead of the Hiphot tuners he used.

Sander is the best. Both basses have slightly different dimensions. It’s slightly thinner from front to back.

I also picked up a 5 string soulmate from @daveonbass . It has the fat boost and I put some Olinto flats on it. It is KILLER.

I love his stuff so much I’ve got another GGJ 5 string on order. I baby my degiers too much. I love them so much I don’t want to expose them to potential rough weather. This new one I’m gonna beat the daylights out of. The Florida weather can be unpredictable and a bit much at times. I gig a lot. I’ll take them to any indoor gig. But the new one will be taken to outdoors also. Some basses can take it(my fender American deluxe jazz is a tank) and some can’t( I won’t say a popular brand that doesn’t handle it well)

De Giers are by far my favorite basses. Don’t get me wrong, I like/love almost all basses and appreciate them for what they are. But De Gier is my number 1.

I like to order multiple pickguards. Just to switch it up from time to time. And I’m now a big fan of ramps.

Another cool thing- he made his own custom pickups for the six string. I love them. Very clean and dynamic. He pays so much attention to detail. We spoke at length when I ordered my six. I wanted to get them for the 5 string I’ve got but I think he decided to not go down the pickup making road anymore. That being said, I do love the aero pickups. They’re more aggressive and very present.

The new 5er ggj will be ready around a year from now. A year for a custom order has been what I experienced the last two times. I think he’s getting busier and his business is going well with a lot of orders going all over the world. Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Europe, etc.

He hasn’t picked up full steam here but I also don’t think he needs to.

I’m happy for him. He deserves it as he makes quality stuff. He really cares.

That’s great to hear about his growing popularity. In the few interactions I had via email after acquiring my GG5, he came off as a really great guy—very patient, too

Your basses look absolutely amazing, btw; and that 6er is nuts! He recently made a 5er in Translucent Presidential Blue that just made my jaw drop. That and his Jamaica Blue have been my favorites. In addition to his amazing basses, I really appreciate his way with color.
