The best way I can describe it is the paragraph on the website.
Definitely not a standard semi hollow sound. The goal was to bring out more of what I like about

Cliff, if you have time when it's done, I would love to hear a sound clip of the fretted version that's coming up. I've been wanting a chambered electric 6 string fretted bass that still has similar immediacy that you get from a solidbody. I just want that air behind the note and the wider sound that you get with chambering.

Hmmmm, I think I'd be interested in hearing a parallel chamber fretted bass. With a fretless 7 string in the planning stages, I don't think I'd consider it for that, but perhaps when I look at a fanned fretted 7, it could be an interesting option/twist!
I was playing my fretless last night and just pondering the sound. I think I can kind of see where Cliff is coming from. The mids can get congested, or distorted sometimes, an ugly aggressive sound or one with no definition - the balance is often hard.
That frequency really alters the sound much more then treble, or even the bassier sounds. It's hard to put into words but if I've got the right amount and tone from the mids on my bass everything works. But since it's such a large and varied frequency band the 'mid control' can often work against me, not with me.

Thanks! I am really starting to get excited now for the new one. Looking forward to having a four stringer again. It has been a long time since I owned a nice one!

Definitely a long ways away, but do you guys know of any pickups and electronics on the market that might lend themselves to an Alembic sound? Given Alembic's price, weight, and designs, I can't think of a real reason not to get something similar from Cliff. 
Aha! That seems like it would be pretty good and not that expensive. Do you add this to a pre-amp or run it by itself?? Sorry, n00b when it comes to that kind of stuff.
