Can't go wrong with either one IMHO, especially on fretless. On fretted, I MIGHT slightly prefer the Nord 2b or 3b.

Legitimate question. I have that in my fretted Rami 6 with Nordstrand DCs.
Since I'm nearing the end of my GAS, I'm trying to do things that I don't have as this will be a P/MM fretless with TI Jazz Flats. To be honest, I don't think I'll be able to hear this particular combination and the Audere adds a switch or two for the Z-Modes. The Nordstrand or Bart would just have a mid switch.
I've got a Nordy 3b in my SCfl 5er, paired with a set of Fatstacks, and I think it slays. It can be smooth, or nasty/grind depending how it's set.
No offense to Dave, but at least IMHO, it's the best engineered tonal turd ever. Very high quality design/build, but never ever liked the sound. Every knob seemed to be a "suck" knob. YMMV tho!!
I like how it sounds with Nordstrand DCs on my fretted Rami 6. My only gripe with the 4 band is that I'd much rather have a 3 band with a mid switch.
My concern would be how the Z Mode would work with 2 different pickups and the levels of complexity that might add. If I ever ordered a fretless with 2 Nordstrand DCs, I'd consider the Audere. No plans on a fretless with Nordstrand DCs at this point. Perhaps if I remained single I'd have all the space and all the dough......
very good stuff imho. got turned on to them via my Skjold, as his preamp is a custom jointly created by Pete and John. Tried some of the mainstream East stuff and liked it a lot.
I've owned both of the retro models and really dug both. It's been a couple of years, but I preferred the J-retro to the P variant. I couldn't tell you why. I just remember the J-Retro worked very well w/ the set of Bartolini PUPs I ran with it. I had the P variant paired with an Aero pickup. I liked, but didn't love that pairing. Never tried the P variant w/ any other PUPs so YMMV.
John's involvement on the ACG filter pre is what swayed me in that direction for my current build. Also, both John and Alan were very responsive when I've emailed them in the past.
Adrian at Nordstrand was also great with email and communication. The only real disappointment in the CS department I had was with Audere. No one would answer my emails. That, coupled with some answers I received from others back in pt. 3 of this club made me veer away from them. Cliff's input and Adrian's communication led to Nordstrand winning my business for my first CB.

I called Audere once because Lo Z had an extremely big volume jump in parallel and they helped me trouble shoot that.
I didn't know Demeter offered their onboard pre to the public. If you've got one already, I'm sure Cliff would be more than happy to work with you to get it into a build.
EDIT: Apparently B&H Photo sells the Demeter onboard pre. Interesting.

14 months is a deal breaker for me.
Current build time is 11 months right now.
I have one spot left in that build.
Each build takes 12 weeks, so after this 11 month spot is
filled the next spot would be in the build that has a 14 month completion date.
