How about for my next bass: a wenge body core with butternut layers on top and back, and walnut top and back with bloodwood veneers between the wenge, butternut and walnut. 4 layers of bloodwood veneers?
Probably 20 pounds unless it get chambered to the max?

probably not but could be heavy around 10 pounds depending on number of strings

Still you would need to look at which types of woods you are using, and the gauage of strings will have minimal effect on the bass in terms of weight compared to the wood type and hardware, etc.

Not really, to be honest I have gone through A LOT of basses in the last few years, but I do have high hopes for this one. My main STR fretless has dual coils, this one is a P/J setup so I am hoping it plays well and gives me more options tonally. I may use this one as my roundwound fretless if it turns out to be a keeper.

Was wondering about building out a piezo only chambered bass, though the body may come to 4" deep. I have heard videos and read about piezo effect on electric basses. I am a minimalist, like things as simple as possible. I do use a Dunlop volume pedal so I do not need a volume knob. Do i need a tone? Want warm and breathing tones but it will be fretted.

If you don't see yourself changing your tone too often mid song I would leave the knobs on the amp/preamp. Rick Kennell has a few basses just like this, I would ping him directly. I forget his handle, it starts with "Happy" though let me take a look
EDIT: BassHappy Reach out to Rick, he's got a bunch of piezo only basses and can likely answer all kinds of questions regarding woods, knobs, and anything else you can think of.

An Allen key is used to tighten/loosen the truss rod which will adjust the relative straightness of the neck & fingerboard.

Thanks. For those who may have purchased their bases used an not gotten the tools (or the preamp knobs, as in my case) the right size for the allen key on my Jon5 was 9/64ths.
