sounds great! :thumbsup: I bought a Guild DS for a solid body project and haven't installed it yet. Will post pics and a review once it's done. Somebody should do an A/B of the Novak and Guild DS pu's in the same bass. I'm sure they'd sound different, but just how different would be the question. I mean, a Lindy Fralin/Nordstrand Jazz pu looks like a Squier Jazz pu… *just stating the visual comparison of the two, not comparing the Guild DS to a Squier pu. Like I said - the Guild sounds really good! Oh, and to all Squier owners… as someone who has owned them - they sound good too (what did I just step in…) ;) :laugh:

Being a single coil pickup I made sure to heavily shield the inside cavities and ground it to fight any hum. Wired her up and plugged her in and what a difference!!! That thunderous growl that I grew to love from all those Guild bassist from the 60's was now in my hands. I did a quick demo and put it on youtube. Hope everyone likes it. (on a side note The metal emblem on the upper bout is signed by Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and is positioned in the same place as the sticker on his old guild bass.)

I cannot put this Hammon darkstared bass down, I forgot how much I love these!! I got this bass a week ago and it sounds amazing! Not sure exactly what the toggle switch does, seems to boost the mids maybe?? Pickup gets brighter when it's switched

Sorry about the late reply, but I have the singlecut sister model (all other specs identical AFAIK) of that bass and it's fairly wide spacing. I assume that the poles don't line up with the Artcore spacing. If so, has it affected the string balance or tone?

Definitely sounds good in the video!

Hey JIO

I am not sure how this would work out, because my understanding is that the string spacing on the pickup poles on those pickups is quite different. I believe that the Guild is in the 17mm range and the Novack is closer to 19mm. Not sure if the pickup housings are the same size either and whether or not they would fit in the same rout. Maybe someone who has both could weight in on both of these issues. Bottom line is - I would love to hear an apples to apples comparison as well.

I think Novak does both spacing, but don't quote me on that.

I was under the impression that he only had the one model - the wider spacing model, but don't quote me on that.....

You may have been partially right. When he built mine he said if the pickup was to be in P-Bass position I wanted the 17.4 mm. If it was in the Jazz bridge position I wanted the 19 mm. The correct choice for me was the 17.4, but it sounds like there's a 19 mm variation as well.

Once again cannot say how pleased I am with Dark Stars... they wake this hollowbody right the he&^% up!!
A US Lakland Hollowbody is a special bass with any of the pickups they installed at the factory.
But, when they built this one using dual Darkstars they made a masterpiece!!
Might very well be the only US Lakland HB to have left Chitown with factory D'Stars :D

Sorry for the late reply. Yes it does not line up perfectly, but close enough that it dose not effect the sound.
