The Fiver is cool, but white has to be the first one I have seen in a color I did not like, to me.

+1. I have a Sonic Blue Decade on order. But will be waiting until at least June for it.
Nice choice, man. I went to a mini-GTG the weekend before last; this guy had a sonic blue Dark Star'd Decade with mahogany body, blocks/binding and matching headstock that was fantastic.
Are you getting a pickguard?

I ordered mine mahogany as well, with a matching headstock. Rosewood board with dots. Everyone seems to be ordering theirs w/ blocks and binding. That was originally my plan as well. But I think the dots give it a more retro look to go along with the funky 60's shape of the body. Besides my only Lakland now is a DPLEII which has the blocks and binding. Mine will be passive w/ single coils and a tort guard. I know a lot of folks won't like the tort guard. But every time I see an old pastel colored fender w/ a tort guard I really like it. I think it will look great on the Decade in Sonic Blue. And I can always change it. I have been meaning to order this bass for more than a year now. There was a small window of opportunity between ever present financial setbacks so I went for it a few weeks ago.
Ah, very cool. I'm a sucker for blocks and binding, but I take your point about "plain" rosewood being more retro. The Skyline Decade, which I recently bought myself, comes with blocks and binding, but that fits in with the whole Gibson vibe of that color scheme. The CAR Decade above looks great with the rosewood board and matching HS--blocks and binding might have been too "busy" a look for it.
I'm thinking the tort guard will look good--I really like it on surf green, don't think I've seen it on sonic blue. This may be the one time where a tort guard is a contrarian choice!
Did you consider a single-coil/humbucking switch for your Decade? They made the tone pot on my Skyline into a push-pull--it's the first passive Decade to have this option, I believe. True, when it's wired this way, you're not quite getting a "true" single-coil sound; a bit of top end is lost. But I like both modes a lot, it essentially doubles the number of usable tones I can get.
I did consider the switchable humbuckers. But decided to stay true to my single coil heart. Price was one factor and love for the single coil Darkstar, which I believe the Chi's were designed to emulate, was the other.
Yeah...that is why I stuck with single coils on mine. I actually am more of a dot guy, but the shoreline gold just begged for the flash of blocks and binding. I have a DPLE II as well, but I plan on selling it.

I really don't play it at all now that I have the Decade. Plus...my wife is starting to give me funny looks
I hate to sound wishy-washy, but they ALL look good to me. Any color, pick guard or not, blocks or dots, maple or rosewood!
