Big Muff would be one sure bet for bass.

I have used a Fulltone BassDrive with my BN5 for years in a rock / Alt cover band. It does both low gain and high gain with the kick of a switch. They can be found used or you can have a Fulldrive modified to match the Bassdrive very easily.

This used to happen with my AC6 Classic -- just the C string and just in positions near the nut.

I gave the truss rod a couple of twists counter clockwise (anti-clockwise for your Brits), then waited a day or so for the bass to settle down, then gave it a couple more turns until the buzzing went away.

There is probably some other adjustment that can be made as well, but on the AC6 with a wooden bridge, I didn't have much more I could do. Fortunately, that's all I had to do to fix the problem though.

Wow! Thanks for sharing those videos, I loved them.

I met Jeff Lorber in Sitka, Alaska in 1978 (or so) when I was in high school. He was just releasing his first album and went up to Alaska to get the band tight where it didn't matter I guess.

His bassist at the time, Lester McFarland was a big influence on me as a 16 year old just starting to play bass.

I'm glad Lorber is still going strong.

I know nothing about this first-hand, but reading about the Big Muff on Amazon is intriguing.

In addition to having control over the distortion, it lets you mix in the dry bass.

He's got BN6 here :) I'm not sure what combo he plays through and he uses Roland system V-bass VB99. I'll ask him later.

Hey Tom! Thanks for the input. I'll try that. Glad to see mine isn't the only 6 that had that problem. And on a fretless it's even a worse problem.

Played it again through the amp last night and its indeed twangy down there amplified. Nothing wrong with trying to get the neck straight, eh?

Havent tried it with an F bass, but having gone through a bunch of OD pedals lately, I am blown away by the Empress Multidrive. Not only is it incredibly versatile and able to be tailored very specifically, it sounds fantastic. Just my .02

I have one of these as well and albeit a little complicated, it's very capable of incredible overdrives, distortions, fuzzes, and combinations of all.

Hey Karel, I use a PC based rig to do all my effects, so it is simple to move things around; but one thing that has been very effective to me was to split the signal into two parallel channels and add the distortion to one of them with a "treble" equalization. The trick is into balance the two channels once you mix the two, you keep the essence of your sound but you add a distorted set of harmonics that sound very complementary to your fBass. Here you get full control by balancing each side.

By the way, I really dig your playing man, keep it up.

I do something similar too but I use a Line6 Pod HD500. 2 channels are the way to go for me using "dirt" fx. By the way Pod HD500 is good but the compressors are so so for bass.

Another thanks from me... I also subscribed to his videos, and he's just a great player.... Had to laugh at Tom when he mentioned the BN5, I was going to mention that it was a BN6 but you beat me to it... Great videos Oleg... always a pleasure seeing some other bass players that I hadn't heard about....:)
