Club Fbass (thread 12)

Is it slap tone or fingerstyle tone you are mostly searching for?

Both I guess. My main reference point is that I want something with a little more grind in the upper midrange than D'addario XL's, which is reasonable request, as they are on the somewhat smoother end of the spectrum. I may try a set of SS hi beams, which were my go to 'bright' roundwounds.

DR nickel lo-riders

George just informed/reminded me that these are the strings he ships standard on Alder/RW VF5's. Also, he reccomended switching from a Badass V to a vintage steel plate bridge for a "more snap and a quicker attack"

F basses are so sensitive, I recall when I had my old BN6, switching from a aluminum B style to a brass A style made a HUGE difference, preference notwithstanding

Guys,

I want to report an excelent service quality from both Fretspot (Donovan) and Fbass (Marcel).
I bought a Bnf5 (second hand) from Donovan who sent the bass for a service.
Fbass did it just so fastly... They changed the jack and the nut with no charge.

You can feel from them that the customer's satisfaction is on first place.

The FBASS guys and gals are great to deal with!!!!...Ive sold all my other basses and play FBASS exclusively!!

George also recommended a "Steel Plate" bridge to me but I was trying to shave off a little weight on one of my basses as the reason for wanting to change bridges at the time. I will say out of my current (4) F-basses, the steel plate bridges are my favorite looking and the basses themselves sound INCREDIBLE but my Black BN5 (NY model sold to me by Jimmy Coppolo) is my BEST sounding bass period. To my knowledge, it has the Aluminum Hipshot B style bridge. Maybe it's just my particular bass because I do not prefer aluminum bridges but I will change nothing on my BN5 NY. I just can't imagine it sounding better than it already does. Just my .02 cents on the aluminum/steel bridges. George is the man though. No doubt. My VF5's have steel plated bridges and I'm not changing those either. :bassist:

I just picked up my first F bass and I am very impressed. One of the most comfortable necks on a sixer I've ever played. Very flexible tone range. I like it so much I might move my smith.

I know, no pics, no bass. Maybe next week.

Nuance and details aside, this bass kills...

They sure are, they're a bit old and heavy and far from cab du jour, but I really love the way they sound. With the puma 900's horsepower they put out some serious thump, for a pair of 10's.

George didn't recommend anything when he was making my BN5 Studio a few years back. He just slapped on a bent plate bridge. :)

I never would have asked for it and was expecting a B bridge, but I also told him I wanted the bass to have some more "punch" than a normal stock BN5. His instincts were spot on too, Go figure.

An F is an F right? :bassist:

Hi there, with the departure of our drummer 6 months ago we stopped gigging until last night, where with our new drummer I had the chance to bring "Thor" to the stage, a rare FBass AC6 Fretted which was previously owned by Tom who graciously keeps this club growing stronger.
As it happens after a while not playing, there are a lot of misses here and there, and the sound is not ideal, but I feel the amazing harmonics this beast could cut through anything.

"Meridiane" is a Bossa/Jazzy/R&B/Bossa piece, and "El Mejillón" is a cuban-sounding salsa that builds finishing in a wave of mojo-cooking rhythm we have lots of fun playing. I hope you like them!
