Thank you Tom,

this Fbass bring me a lot in my playing, even just after a coulpes of days.

I cross my finger to win the Fbass contest and go for a BN5 E to C 17,5mm.

Today's roster update welcomes asbs and his gorgeous BNF5 with custom fingerboard dots.

And you are right: it is time to add a fretted BN5 to the family. :smug:

Gorgeous top man !
Walnut body will bring a really nice tone.
I guess you go with an ebony fingerboard ?

Thanks ASBS....I like your FBass too!!..just killer!

actually ... my fingerboard is a really old piece of Guatemalan Rosewood that Marcel and Jeff found for me!!...You are absolutely right...every bass that FBASS makes, is its own!....craftsmanship is next to none!

I was in a local music store yesterday and they had an F bass from 1981. It was fretless, had a Hi-A pickup, and an unusual body shape. It was marked as a Furlanetto bass and cost $4400. I said to the clerk "this must be an early F bass" and his reply was "no, it's an Italian-made Furlanetto bass".

Overpriced and uninformed! :D

Thank you !
Yes it is an himalayan salt lamp on the bookshelf, suppose to be wealthy and bring positive ions.

Fbass build really special instruments.

I am moving from France to New Caledonia in 10 days.
This kind of move make you feel what is really important in your life, because you have to make choice beetwen what come with you or not, and this bnf5 is for sure an important part of me that will folow me as shadow.
You can feel that the Fbass team put them heart in this instrument.
You know, this is the difference beetwen a hand made and a industrial process....
I had to look up New Caledonia; I didn't know where it was. Wow, that's a big move and really big changes for you. I'm glad your Fbass BNF5 will make the trip. You shouldn't have to give up everything you love, right? ;-)

There are some great bass makers out there, but Fbass is special. The people, the product, the tone, the playability, the innovations... it's no wonder Fbass is appreciated the world over.

I would love to have a look on this Guatemalan old rosewood !
I guess it will sound as well as it looks...

Yes, big move with all the family...
And 4 basses, 2 cabinets, 10 pedals... in a contener.
(except the Fbass who is going to take the plane with me, I don't feel to wait the 2 months conteber trip delay...)

Music is every where and musicians also, I think I will meet great peoples in Pacific also !

Laughing!

Years ago I walked into the biggest music store in Anchorage and asked if they carried Fbass. This was before I owned any.

The guy "corrected" me. "You mean Fender."

"No," I said with a smile, "I mean Fbass."

"Well, they have a p-bass and a j-bass, but Fender doesn't have an Fbass." he said with a laugh.

"No," I corrected politely, "Fbass and Fender are not the same thing. Fbass is a whole other brand."

"Well," he snorted, "We only carry top brands here."

I looked about. Next to me was a Squire bass in a triangular cardboard box that was bundled with a combo amp. The bass+amp bundle cost less than half of what a finger ramp on one of my Fbasses costs.

"I see," I said, trying not to sound sarcastic.

I know, no pic no bass. Here's a lo-fi shot.

Sorry, McNasty, I missed giving you a number when you posted!

asbs: please note I had to adjust your number to 252 to get FunkyMcNasty in to the proper place (he posted his photo before you did).

Sorry about the mixup guys, and welcome!

Thanks, but no worries either way Tom.

I do have to say that after a couple weeks with this bass, I am very impressed. I can't put the thing down. The thin neck profile feels great, and with the radius of the board, this thing sets up with stupid low action. I have been playing this bass non stop. The tonal possibilities are endless with this BN5 as well. I cant believe how punchy and fat the sound is. I love it.

I'm going to be testing a set of Reed James vintage vibe neo's in my VF5 (the only jazz loaded bass I have) and am very interested, all sacrilige aside, in how they sound. Not that I think VF5s need different pups but I'm curious to see how these sound and how they play with the f preamp. If anyone's interested in the results, I'm happy to report here or elsewhere

I'd love to hear your results. My guess is that the Fbass preamp is going to play well with about any pickups you would pair it with. It is such a musical preamp, and the boost-only approach I think helps it to stay musical. Looking to check out some Reed James pickups, myself, one of these days (but not in an Fbass, most likely).

I am really impressed with the dual coils, so I'm very curious how this vintage vibe single coil set performs. That being said, as interesting of a comparison as it will be for the F Bass, there is nothing certainly lacking in the VF five electronics. I'd rather be comparing them to another off-the-shelf set, like Nordstrand's or Fralins, but I have to work with what I've got.

Please report here, and with soundcloud mp3s or youtubes if you can.

What would be really cool is if you could record the VF5 with the Fbass single coils, then do the same lines with the Reed James pickups. That way you (and us) can compare how they actually sound, not how we remember them sounding.
