Club Fbass (thread 12)

My BN5 is coming in tomorrow. I like LaBella Super Steps and or F Bass strings. But, I'm more of a Rotosound fan when it comes to my Jazz Basses. And, from using the bridge pickup in single coil, FBasses sound like a Jazz Bass on steroids. You think?

Fbass owners, just have a quick question. What kind of strings do you prefer? FBass, LaBella?
Depends on the bass.

I'm using Ken Smith slap masters on my BN5, Fbass strings on my BN6 (although I'm thinking of trying something different), Thomastik Infeld Jazz flats on my AC6 Classic, and Fbass strings on my AC6 Signature. I've tried several different string types on my BN6 LER and am back to Fbass strings again. And my Alder / Rosewood / 60s VF5 was transformed by DR Fat Beams.

Are the fbass strings flats? I didn't see where it says on the site.
No, they rounds and exposed core when they go over the bridge, which makes them feel soft and like they are thinner gauge strings, but over the pickups they are definitely full on thick which gives them a thick tone as well.

I love them except on a BN6 the strong magnets of the BN pickups seem to pull the exposed core strings harder, giving them a chorus-y, unpleasant intonation when you play above the 14th fret.

They sound fantastic below the 14th fret however, and the intonation thing only happens when the strings are fresh. When they are broken in they are better up there.

Good details to know. Thanks!

A quick question, so new F basses don't have humbucker? Just single coil with hum and push/pull pot for hum cancellation, right?

If that is true when did they start doing that didn't they have single coil /hamburger option on push/pull switch?
