Club Fbass (thread 13)

I finally started a discussion with Marcel about beginning a BNF build. He had me thinking about an option to have 22 frets just like a standard fretted BN. Does anyone have experience with a 22-24 fret BNF instead of 28? He brought up a good point that it would be slightly less compressed sounding as I want a warm, yet punchy sound.

Or can anyone with a standard BNF help out with their thoughts?

Thanks, Rich

I had a BN and BNF at the same time. I much preferred the feel of the BN when sitting to practice. The lower horn on the BNF is moved back to accommodate the range of the “28 frets” which I did not find comfortable.

Now, with that said, the bass sounded amazing... and I cannot really comment on the affect the fretboard length has on tone.

Still need these added to my roster. Thought they were but still only shows my BN5 and GFC L5

You've completed the process of Furlanettization. The transformation is underway.

Resistance seems to be futile...:D

Not sure how my reply ended up in your post.
Anyways.... Congrats.
How did you do spec it out?
Details please

Not much to write home about. Pretty standard FBass fare.

-Ash body
-Maple Neck
-Gabon Ebony board(I just went with the full, 28-fret)
-Maple fret lines
-A-Style Bridge
-Black Hardware

I'm just stuck on the finish. I've narrowed it down to either...

I like the stealthy look of the Gloss Black, but that is gonna be a PITA to keep sorta' clean...
I also like the Blue Fade, but I already have a Fade...

I need to make a decision ASAP, but I welcome any insight from you guys. Other suggestions are welcome as well.

I’m stuck on my
BNF color too. I’m thinking I may copy @Gnal and get the satin charcoal! That blue fade is beautiful. Out of the two, that’s my vote

I'm with ya regarding black. They look awesome.....when they're someone else's .. what about the charcoal black burst? I don't remember what it's called....it's black but not 'OMG is that a fingerprint' black. :)

I agree with you on the black. Is GNAL’s charcoal satin burst w black grain different from what you are talking about? Here is his exact bass when it was on the website. Almost bought it haha.

Yeah, I almost bought one that had this finish, but it was the glossy version. I really dig this finish. There's just something about those fades that just moves me. The Red Fade on the FBass Not-In-Stock page is one I just keep going back to, that and the Blue Fade I posted.

I even had an issue with my Matte Black bass. It wasn't fingerprints, but every other stain showed up! I always try to wipe down my basses after each show, but when you're playing two or three nights in a row, and you gotta get up and go to work in between, sometimes it becomes a low priority. My Matte Black bass needed as much TLC as my glossy stuff, mainly because it was black.

In light of that lurid tale, I'm not even sure how I was justifying getting another glossy, solid Black bass...although, one of my Dingwalls that I have on order is Trans Black...LOL!

Glutton for punishment. Haha.

Indeed. So, are you going with the 22/24 fret board? I don't need 28-frets, or 24, for that matter, but I like the look of the extended board...

Still debating. I don’t neeeeed 28 frets, but I love the look of the extended board going all the way to the neck pickup. It would give me the feeling like I was still playing upright getting those deep tones playing on the end of the fretboard.

Still need these added to my roster. Thought they were but still only shows my BN5 and GFC L5

First, there isn’t a bad color in the F Bass crayon box and I really like the blue ones that I’ve seen. But... the black hasn’t been any harder than my others to keep clean.

Grats on the new bass coming your way!
