Club Fbass (thread 13)

Hi all, I'm new to Club Fbass here:hyper:

I've been playing a bn5 and wanna know any recommendation on strap lock? I tried to fit a d'adderio on my fbass strap but found the strap is too thick to fit the strap button..

Thank you!~~

I too use Schallers. I have found that some of my Levy’s straps are very difficult to get in the lock because of thickness. Two things... I’ve been able to enlarge the hole in the strap slightly so that the material doesn’t bunch up around the post. Then tightening it till snug, and again once a week until it is seated properly. Second, Schallers has newer models on their website where the post is twice as tall. I’ve not tried them, but will if the need arises.

Yes everybody has their favorites, I've been using Dunlops exclusively for the past 5 or 6 years. It was a happy coincidence when I bought my first FBass last year and found out that's what they use as well.

So the other day when I was listing some of the benefits of living so close to the Fbass headquarters I forgot to list something really cool.
The last time I was there (actually buying amplification, but that's another story) I got a chance to meet the artist who does their neck building. He had just come off tour with his band, and I hope he'll forgive for not remembering his name, but a super cool guy. He brought out different planks of flamed maple, so I could choose the exact plank I wanted in my build. I thought that was pretty cool.
Anyway, Marcel sent the first pics of my neck today. Pictures don't do the flame pattern justice, but here's what she looks like by day

And when the lights go down, she dresses up and comes out to play:

That's incredible! Life is good, eh?
Feels good. Mind you, these were ordered separately. The FBass was fully paid by September, but only began construction in January and several of my customizations were responsible for the delay.

The Fodera was ordered in January, but I only agreed to the Quarter 2 Standard run of the Emperor 6 so I would have the additional time to pay. It was finished by the date promised.

I gotta lay off for a little while, to let my wife calm down. Ha! Nobody tell her my next target is a Pedulla Hexabuzz (although that will likely be second hand.)

One of my BN’s came with the Dunlop recessed locks installed, the other has the standard Fbass buttons. The standard buttons so far have held my strap securely enough that I have not yet looked into installing any locks.

Correct. It is a giant strap button and it held my strap extremely well once I got it on. I considered leaving the original buttons on with the strap remaining attached, but I didn't want the strap rubbing against the bass in the gigbag, potentially scratching the bass finish

That looks great! Jon Howard is who you are talking about. Does beautiful work. I follow him on Instagram. Integral F Bass employee by day and killer singer by night. His account is HonJoward

Dude... sweet board and love the luminlays. Can’t wait to see it!

I totally dig the Luminlays. I ordered them on all 4 of the Dingwalls I've got coming, BUT, they're standard on all Kiesel instruments, so I've had them on my last few basses. I can probably count, on one hand, the amount of times I actually needed them. I'm not knocking them or anyone that orders them, I did, but I'm glad they don't cost that much. I might have actually sprung for lights, if they were an option. I thought about it a bunch, back in the day, when I toyed with the idea of getting a Status.

I have two Kiesels, one with Luminlays and one without. I have to say that I'm underwhelmed with them on that bass. Although, in comparison to F Basses, I'm generally underwhelmed with both of them. :D I will say the lights I've seen look really cool! I mostly play in well lit churches now, so it isn't an issue. There were a couple of bars I played in where they would have been handy. Or, on my BNF6 while playing in the dark. Ha!

@shepherd

Here's what you need: a "hammer-driven small hole punch" from McMaster-Carr.

McMaster-Carr

from this catalog page: McMaster-Carr

I punch out the hole on all of my straps, and it makes a huge difference in how well the straplok button sits on the strap. Think I have a 3/8" punch for my Dunlop StrapLoks, but I'm not sure.

It's a super-sano solution to the problem.

I always wanted a bass with leds, but this is the closest I've come. Twice in the past year I really could have used them. Once in a particularly dark club and another in the pit where the only light was on my music stand. I don't think I'll regret getting them in the least.
