Sorry. I corrected the roster.Ha! @Tom7 - I'm already a member, #301![]()
It's gonna feel great to get back up on stage!I set a goal in 2017 of meeting musicians to practice with and I managed to meet a couple of local musicians last August / September. We'd been rehearsing the guitarist's original material for almost a year.
I set two goals for 2018, to: 1) perform on a stage and 2) play on a recording.
One of those goals will be crossed off next weekend and I'm getting excited because it will be 21 years since the last time I've been on a stage. I am bringing my FBass BN6 and my Greg Curbow Petite 6 as a backup (just in case). The organizers are providing a bass amp, so I won't need to lug mine around.
If the following information is not allowed per TalkBass, please advise and I will delete it from this post.
On August 25, we will play as the opening band of the 2nd stage at Bowfest, on Bowen Island, BC. I'm playing bass with The Dan Cowan Band. The style is instrumental progressive rock.

I have no problem performing as the opening act. Eventually I hope to play more often, but I gotta start somewhere.
Thanks! It's gonna feel great to get back up on stage!
Congrats![]()
I just wanted to follow up that we played today and it felt awesome to be on a stage again for the first time in 21 years. My FBass BN6 sounded great in spite of a tiny GK bass amp provided. But it wasn’t too bad as they put my line through the sound board anyway....I set two goals for 2018, to: 1) perform on a stage and 2) play on a recording.

You took the words right out of my mouth.Look at that grain! I love it.
I hope I get to test this one before it goes out to you Tom, would that be ok?
This is by far the best jazz bass I have ever laid my hands on! Is it the best jazz bass in the world? Maybe, maybe not, but my search is definitely over. If you're looking to buy new I suggest you contact Marcel at Fbass to have one built exactly to your specs. From wood choices to bridge type and string spacing, to the custom color, even the knobs, everything just the way you want it! Not sure when I will get around to sound clips, haven't even taken proper pics yet. I'll attach the ones Marcel took and suggest if you want a great jazz bass, contact Marcel directlyHey, you can count me in with two BN5 that unfortunately have not arrived yet. But they are on their way towards me.
PS! I was searching for a high end 5-string jazz bass for a while and was really surprised as I couldn't find any that suits my expectations - 19mm string spacing, light weight, resonant, perfect neck profile etc. I have had 3 Sadowskys, 2 Foderas, a Celinder, a Woodandtronics, A Nordy to name a few but all of them lacked something. I love the sound of the Atelier Z basses but their 5-strings are 18mm. Then I found a few FBasses on the used market that suit my needs. So the deals were made just by the specs and a few sound samples in youtube. I love the sound I hear there. But would you share more sound samples with your playing? Any links etc. I would love to hear specially the drum&bass only recordings but others are also welcome. Don't be shy about your playing, I am only interested in hearing the sound. You can share publicly or send me a PM. Thanks!
Thanks! It sounds amazing too. I wanted bright and articulate with a lot of bark and bite so the wood choices were ash/maple. It's so versatile though. All I have to do is go with the neck pup, boost the low eq and it's gone from snappy to round and rootsy capable of handling all styles. The search is over for me and I think you will be more than happy as well if you take this routeWow, what an amazing bass!![]()
