Club Fbass (thread 13)

So, I'm probably a little obsessed, but I truly dig these basses. I say this because I just bought the second. It's a Rosewood finger board and I have to wait a bit, but it's in the chute. I'm truly excited to hear the jazz tones of which this one is capable. Thanks to Marcel for all his help today and their commitment to excellence.

Hey folks, a total newby here. I went to the Fbass shop back in April and meet George, Marcel and the gang. I was looking for a new bass and was unfamiliar with Fbass and didn't want to drop a bunch of cash before playing at least one of their basses. It didn't take long to realize I was home at last. They are among the friendliest and most professional people I've done business with! The product they turn out is top notch! So as not to make my first post super long, I will wrap it up by saying I ordered a BN5 that day and called back the following week and ordered a VF5. I am currently working with Marcel to customize a BNF6. By the fall I should have all three and I will probably never buy another bass as long as I live. Sorry for the long post. Excitedly waiting VF5 should be only a couple weeks away according to Marcel.
Cheers

Congrats bassJuju. I have been eyeing that one. If that is the bass from the Fbass site the weight on that bass was super light. You going for it will save me a bit of money :) (we for a bit longer anyway.) Enjoy it and tell us what you think!

That's the one... I'm glad I could save you some money!

You know, I didn't pay attention to the weight before, but wow that is light! I think it is destined to become my new #1. Sometimes they just pick you. Ok... now my Jones is full on! I can't wait to hear it.

There's someone else with 08053 in their name here? I never had a BNF6. If I did, I would never sell it. on the lookout for a BNF5.
I know what you mean. I don't think I will ever sell any of my Fbasses.....ever. Sorry I thought you posted a pic of it in an old post. I read every post since 2008 trying to keep my juices flowing until my babies arrive. Must have confused you with someone else.

OK, my turn to ask, is that the one on the website? Sounds similar at least. I almost bought that one instead of the VF5. Man, these are sweet basses. Does this mean we'd buy them all if we could?
Lol that's the one and thanks for not buying it! I was saying to Marcel I need to win the lottery because they make soooo many beautiful instruments I would buy them all if I could

Man, I was back and forth on that for some time. The J just called to me and I really want the ACC in the violin finish with the purfling. I know, spendy, but I can dream. Enjoy! She's mighty sweet!

Sounds like your gonna have a sweet ACC. Hope it's yours sooner than later.
I was going to go with an AC Signature as my fretless but judging from past experience my fretless will be my last used bass. It didn't make sense to me to make it my most expensive (by far) bass.
How does that BNF6 look in person? I was just going to swap the nut for a black one and change the strings to black tape wounds to make it totally stealthy. That depends on how much i like it as is when I pick up my VF. What do you think?

Sounds awesome! I love black tapes. I have a set of Daddarios on my current fretless and a set of La Bella's on my Gretsch. I've ordered a set for my BN6, but it plays so sweet right now, I'm not sure I can change them.

I know you've probably already posted pics but I'd love to see your BN6.
Here's where mine are at right now. VF5 is awaiting electronics and final assembly.
The BN5 is awaiting colour in the booth.

Yeah man, those are smooth. I love the red and would be a top choice for me. I think you said that you'd have like one of each-- yes, me too. The red, white, brown bursts. All are very special. What's the color of he BN5? Sorry if you mentioned it and I glossed over it. It was the playability and tone that hooked me though. Nothing quite like it. I have posted pics before, but here they are again.

SWEET
I remember seeing that one now. I was never a big fan of trans white until I saw yours. Almost made me change my BN5. I'm going with the trans blue for the BN. When I was at the shop they had a whole rack of blue and faded blue. They had me hooked immediately. The wait on these builds have been killing me but finally we're getting close.

Hard to go wrong with their blues. They are beautiful. Red and blue... that's going to be a great pair!

Question: I've got a new-to-me 2009 BN5. Love the tone, but as compared to my other basses (both active and passive) the output is quite low. I need to boost my preamps gain about 25% as compared to my other basses to achieve a comparable volume. The battery is new, and the pickups are about 1/4" below the strings.

Is it typical for BN basses to have a relatively weak output, compared with other basses, or is something wrong or different with my pickups?
