The thicker neck is one of the things that makes it play so awesome. The most playable 5 string neck I've ever had, and that includes the thin and flat Laklands.

Vintage size frets and a thicker neck for me are heaven on a bass.

I'm not a fan of thin and flat necks. So many 5 and 6 strings lose the proportions. It is just perfect. Proportionally it feels like my former 64AV.

a 64 jazz neck feels very slim to me......as most SR5 necks feel slim to me also
My Fender Marcus Miller 5ver is slim front to back...but wider than the Stingray 5
My AM standard jazz 5 is rounder ,thicker
The Roscoe Beck 5ver was a bit too thick and wider string spacing for my comfort

I've been watching this thread and they are very beautiful instruments. I'm not knocking their basses per se..I never laid my hands on one, But if you're going to make a vintage-inspired instrument then modernize the neck heel, maybe the truss rod, but then ignore something as important as access to the truss rod...makes no sense.

What has not been mentioned is that you can request the truss rod access carve if you want it...I had that done on my Moollons off the bat. I think YJ prefers not to as standard but its been no problem to have it.

Sounds like someone is digging their Fender AVRI 63 .

Yeah, I'm not a huge bass hunter so once I got the Moollon as my 5 string J and added some new P's I was pretty much done and back to work.

The AVRI 63 is absolutely incredible though, and it got me back as a Fender user. Moollon has really hit a nice area of the market - the 5 string vintage bass. It just plays like a 5 string would if it was released by Fender in 1963. I know companies like Lakland make passive 5's as well, but they never nailed the tone for me like Moollon does.

I've been trying to get used to my Sadowsky MV5 for almost a year. Construction, setup, fit and finish are top notch. I've just come to realize I'm not into active preamps. If anyone here has a P Classic IV or J Classic V and is interested in a Sadowsky, PM me.

Post EDIT:

As per a recent post that involved a seller of Moollon products in Korea not affiliated with Moollon or Moollon dealerships that sold a faulty VJ-60 pickup set to a forum member of Talkbass, we are in the process of resolving things to the satisfaction of the buyer and we hope that no unwarranted distrust of Moollon as a company in regard to customer service was caused by the issue at hand.

For the record as related to aforementioned post and if there was any misunderstanding conveyed: At Moollon, pickup replacements (given that one happens to give out) will always be 100% covered by us, if the nonworking set is sent back to us. Also, YJ does not "repair" his pickups; we will send a fresh set upon receiving faulty set.

And while we're on the subject...

I'll be posting a new thread with statement this evening from Moollon president/luthier Young Joon YJ Park regarding the "hitchhikermusic" account on ebay. Although it is selling actual Moollon gear direct from a Korean address, hitchhikermusic is unaffiliated with us or any registered Moollon dealers...and is causing a bit of a headache at the moment. We are taking measures to prevent any additional inconvenience on behalf of potential Moollon customers

Ultradust, thanks for clearing this up re: hitchhikermusic. I've been hoping to get a Moollon soon and have looked over those very ones listed on eBay more than once.
