I’m a new member of the club. (This post might get lengthy) I’ve wanted a P Classic for quite some time. My wife is Korean and we travel there fairly often. A couple weeks ago I decided to go to the Nagwon instrument arcade in Seoul with hopes of tracking one down. I had spoken to Moollon’s main dealer there and knew they didn’t have any stock. Most of the tiny shops there sell crap but there are some great instruments to be found. I had done a full loop of the place and was heading back to one of the stores to play a Fender P5 I saw when I heard someone playing bass loudly down a hall I had missed. I go to the shop and the owner is demo’ing a bass for someone over video chat. He was holding a Moollon P. He finished with the person online and I asked to play it. It was pretty beat up and the previous owner installed a badass 2. First thing i noticed other than the dirt and wear was the pickup was really loose. I was initially discouraged. That is until I played it. It had the P mojo and I loved the neck. It had the sound. The owner tells my wife that the bass just came in 3 hrs ago and an American magically shows up. He had 6 texts and calls on it already. Seemed like a sales tactic, but he showed the texts to her. I could go into more detail about my time in the store but needless to say, I bought it. I had my wife contact Moollon and they agreed to meet with me to get an original bridge. So a couple days later I hand YJ a bottle of Woodford double oak I bought at duty free and asked for a new bridge and reinforce the pickup. He is such a nice and kind dude. He loved seeing the bass and at #230 he said it was some of his earlier work from 2010. He said he would go over the bass and to come back in 3 hrs. When I got back, he was working on the intonation and told me he replaced the bridge as well as switching it back to other original parts including the string tree and strap buttons. The pickup cover Was cracked so he swapped that out and put a new pick guard that he liked better. The new pick guard really matches the Dakota Red finish. It’s chunkier in its tort and has lots of red. Gorgeous on this bass. He simply didn’t need to do all this extra work, but his love for what he does and his instruments is evident. What a great experience. Space is at a premium in Korea and his shop is in the basement of a small building. You can barely walk anywhere. I may have seen many of your bass bodies for those of you waiting. Unfortunately, he told my wife new orders are now 3 1/2 years out. He is absolutely swamped. I can’t put this bass down and I’m really excited to play Jersey Boys on it later this summer. Thanks for reading! I’ll post pics soon.
