Yeah, we've unfortunately seen some very slow delays in the past few months for a number of parcels specifically entering via JFK, and from EMS tracking info, it's fairly clear to us that it's just a matter of being held for whatever reason while in line for customs clearance. We initially thought it was just had to do with the year-end/holiday mess, but just last month a Brooklyn recipient had to wait 2 weeks for a bass to clear, before being handed over to USPS.

We can only hope that it's not the new normal...

Talk about coincidence. You mentioned to me that YJ installed DR Pure Blues on my new bass and I actually won a set at a Bass Boot Camp they have here in Philadelphia so now I have an extra set Victor Wooten is sponsored by DR and since he was at the Camp, he held some raffles so I happened to win an extra set so that was really nice.

Finally got to get my P-Classic in the studio this morning. The engineer, who is a great bassist and used to tour with national acts, was super into it. It's always a little nerve-racking tracking in front of him... When I got done with the track he was asking about the bass and I just handed it over to him to check it out. His main takeaways were (again) the big fundamental, and musical midrange content with no upper-mid drop-off that sometimes happens with Fender style basses. I was saying bye to everyone and he said, "Joe, feel free to bring that bass every time you come here". I have a feeling my "honeymoon phase" is never going to end...

Hey guys, if you need to make a truss rod adjustment, do you remove the neck?

I adjusted my new P-Classic for the first time yesterday, and had to take the neck off to do it. Not my first choice...

Here in Tokyo I have to adjust twice a year for seasons, and maybe fine tune once in the interim, so my inevitable next Moollon will have the route in it I think.

I know everyone tends to post gushing praise for their new bass but I have to say that this bass is a total delight in all areas, and easily measures up to or even exceeds the pre-CBS Fenders I've owned or played in the past! Thanks YJ and Andi!

How would you qualify the quality of the fretwork ? I am currently pleased with Lull basses and their Pleked necks.

Also, I have seen pictures of the Mollon shop and I wondered if the woodwork is done in house ?

I can only speak of my own P5. Everything about the neck is good, starting with the gorgeous piece of ebony. The fretwork is perfect as far as I can tell, visually dead level, with nicely beveled ends, and to date, no fret sprout (I understand our New England climate is similar to Moollon's). I've only needed one small truss rod tweak in the year I've owned it.
One of the attributes of the neck I've noted here on TB is the consistency of sound. Surprisingly, I've found no dead spots, and there is remarkable clarity up and down the neck.
As for your second question about who does the woodwork, I've no idea and will let @Ultradust handle that.

I have a J5 and a P4. The P needs the fret ends filed a bit (common on many basses - wood moves) but all the frets are level and as Tom B said there are no dead spots on either bass.

Tom, do you have any recordings of your P5? I'd love to hear it. The only thing I've found on youtube was the Chip Shearin NAMM clip, and that's not really the best example, audio quality-wise.

I'm afraid I'm pretty asleep during our daylight hours as well! And sorry for not dropping by as much as I should.

Yeah, there have been only maybe a total of a dozen P-V builds or so to date and YJ isn't fond of random video captures at the shop for sonic evaluation purposes, so in general we point to B524 players for letting folks hear how YJ's low-output humbucker sounds. It may be in J position, but suffice to say the B524's neck pickup is of the identical specs as the one used in the P-V (B524 bridge pickup has corresponding wider spacing and is slightly overwound).

Didn't want to make it an open shout-out via the FB page but just the same it may be a good thing to at least mention here that there will be an extended delay on new builds (finishes not in stock) as of last week until heaven know when... YJ is really burned out from trying to stick to the present build schedule as conveyed to customers who have confirmed orders, but the trips all the way up to Paju to do lacquer work up to 4 times a week is really taking its toll on him and he needs to take it easy.

He's also hoping that the more rushed folks (and dare I say frequent 50+ email reply tire kickers we do get from time to time) will pass on an order, leaving the serious folks to settle in and coordinate things toward a final build with us as time permits

BTW, P-IV stock in particular is the lowest I can ever remember it being... I was at the shop on Wednesday (it's way on the other side of Seoul, a 90 minute trip from my studio) to pickup a lovely 1958 P-Classic IV I had purchased, and so I took a picture of remaining P-IV stock, knowing full well which had been spoken for already.

Mind you, we had no less than six confirmed orders for P-Classic IVs in the past 10 days, which YJ will only be able to start on (hopefully) late this month. So despite what's on the P-IV body rack, here's what's left of what you see, Left to Right:

Will have to check for pricing to be sure...the surcharge incurred may be just for the additional VP-60 in the bridge, placing it at a total of $2449(?) with makassar ebony fretboard on maple.

I was one of the 50+ email tire kickers. I was serious about ordering, but I jumped on my order when I heard the Master was burning out/slowing down!

On the average, about 1 in 3 inquiries seem to stick with placing an order for a finish that isn't in stock, and after bringing things up late last month with each initial reply, it's remained pretty much the same.

However, I do have a feeling that the lesser preferred finishes will also be snatched up quicker from now on
