I'll go out on a limb and guess that the 2nd half of the recording is the P5 and the first half is the P4. The pickups are way more similar than I would have expected. The 2nd half (what I'm guessing is the P5) sounds a bit compressed in relation -- slightly tighter lows, slightly less high-high, slightly more high mids -- than the 1st half.

For some reason, these won’t work on my iPhone. It opens and I get a play button with a slash through it. Weird. Anyone else?
The 2nd clip would be a great recording bass. Seems there wouldn't be a need to roll off the low end, and it has more mids, but not too much to bring too much attention to itself in a mix. Great sounding bass.
I guessed like you folks. And was wrong. The P5 is the first you hear. The P4 is the second.
They are so similar. The 1st take sounds a little deeper if I had to be picky, but it's quite close.
My fear was the 5 wouldnt sound like the 4. And the B might be suspect. John said he played the pattern up the neck with no open strings to try and make it a fair comparison.
This is actually kind of shocking for me. Now I need to find a way to fund one. Also it sounds hotter than the 4. Did he use the same input gain/recording level for both basses?
Yes. Gain structures were the same. Tone rolled off a tad. The 5 had rounds and the 4 had flats. I can hear past the string differences. And what I’m looking for the 5 seems to deliver in spades.
I'm interested to know if the tone is all the way on for both recordings - sounds to me like the P5 has the tone turned down a tiny bit more than the 4. Both sound fantastic!
