Yep. Exactly. I'm told the same thing. I'm on a definite course to get into a NYC JJ5, and I've boiled it down to either a new order or a used one. If I go new, I'm pretty sure they don't have anything in the current pipe that matches my specs, so I'm betting on the full 5 or maybe even more months.I am guessing they had something coming through that met the same specs and just made it his...Lucky you. I am pretty sure, I will be waiting until Jan. Placed my order a couple of weeks ago. Roger said 5 months.
I had to wait nearly seven months for my bass. I called Kevin a few times towards the end and he told me to be patient and that they would not ship it to the customer until it was perfect. In my case the finish wasn't up to Roger's standards and they sent the body back. In the end I received a perfect bass that was exactly what I ordered, and if I had to do it all over again I would wait twice as long to get that same perfect instrument exactly as I ordered it.
What are you wanting in a JJ5 Vic?
At least at this point, I'm thinkin' pretty basic stuff. Plain solid ash body, vintage style with pickguard/plate, maple fingerboard, SC pickups. If I go new, it'll most likely be a '59 burst. If I go used, it'll probably end up being a plain natural at this point.
Well I went to the shop yesterday and ended up walking out with this beauty. Simply put, this thing kills!

Hey....I am just about to leave to go to Brooklyn and pick up my new Metro 4(looking like Tal's Bass....natural etc.)with the vintage sytem. Got the word from Kevin that it is here. I am so jazzed......hope traffic isn't too bad. Honored to join the group.

in 1994 it took 11 weeks.. I think it is longer now. My newer 2004 PJ5 took about 6-7 months.. It is worth the wait even though its like waiting for a baby to be born.
I just got back.....thanks for the well wishes ....the traffic was horrible, but well worth it. Amazing Bass...man ...I dug the Sadowsky head and enclosures i got to play the Bass through ...that is some rig....hey Vic ..."so Jazzed" was lame wasn't it? I was going to edit that...but had to hit the road. Picture some pompous guy saying "oh yeah, I am so Jazzed...NOT. Peace
