Ouch Dean! The grain on your Ash top against the '59 burst is just stunning! And I am a sucker for a Tort PG too and yours has a lot of the brighter speckling on the Tort that makes it pop even more! Sweet! Your bass may move into first place for the coloring and vibe I am considering for a custom order. While I love the look of a couple of those quilt topped '59 bursts, I too am leaning to a more traditional vibe. So I just love a nice trans burst finish agains a nicely grained Ash. Sa-weet!

Potential specs for a future Sadowsky: 5 string NYC JJ, Ash body, trans finish, one piece (not chambered), Tort PG, Single Coils,and either a naked Birdseye FB with no dots or, a Brazilian FB is also tempting.

Pau Ferro = morado. Two different names for the same wood.

To me, the fretboard sounds more like a maple board than a typical softer rosewood board. I like the ash/morado combination. With the '70s pickup placement, the single coils, and in passive mode, it sounds very much like a '70s ash/maple bass in the vein of Marcus Miller. Of course, it also has that great Sadowsky preamp too. Best of both worlds.

It's a great bass, but I rarely play fivers and I've been thinking of selling it as a result. It's just such a great player and so darned pretty though. :p

I agree with the above. Morado sounds and feels like maple, but looks like rosewood IMO and IME. It's a pretty cool board material for those who like a little more upper mid brightness and a 'bounce' off the fretboard that seems to come from many maple board instruments, but want a little more of a vintage look to their instrument.

Thing is, by the time you rolled in that ms live kickback, I just couldn't pass up the price, and it's exactly the config I was looking for except for a burst finish. I'll probably still order a new one someday and maybe pass this deal on to someone else, but for now, this sucka' is stayin' right where it's at. :)

Yeah this bass is special to me in sound, feel, and looks. Some well respected fellow players have all commented on how nice this bass is and several have gotten in line if I ever sell. I'm very fortunate for sure. The NJ4's really match up well, and I finally tried SS strings on this bass which is also a great match for this instrument. I'm still real zingy though.. my technique you know...

Your spec for a Sad is excellent. I've come to realize I prefer the '59' burst finish over the popular 3 tone burst which is also just gorgeous. I'm not a fan of chambered bodies either, at least IME. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, because if I'm not mistaken Roger chambers to reduce the weight not make a sonic adjustment.

I would also agree that Morado is a nice go-between of Maple and Rosewood type boards, and is also quite beautiful. My previous Silver PJ4 had Morado and it was stunning.
