It would be cool to have LED side FB markers, but not LED Dot position markers. I just don't look at the dots when I play. Quick reference on the side of the fingerboard usually gets me there. Very cool man.

One of my favorite basses of all time is the MIA Fender Deluxe P5. I love the coupling of the P pickup in the neck position with the stacked jazz in the bridge. I love being able to dial between the two for a plethora of tones.
I'm thinking of a P-bodied 5 string vintage PJ. I've been looking around on the website but can't find out what I'm looking for. Is there a pickup I could have put in instead of a J pickup in the bridge that will come closer to the stacked J on the P deluxe? Does the nordy big single have tonal differences, or is it just like a single coil in a bigger package? Or do you think I'm better off with just a J in the bridge.

I just emailed Roger about the pickup question, but I still want all of your input on the Nordstrand Big Split, Fat Stack, and Dual Coil.
Also, I need some help specing it out. All my basses thus far have been ash/maple. I don't see any real sense in departing from it, especially if this is going to be my most expensive bass. Anyone think an ash/maple P/5 would sound horrible?
And for color I'm not sure yet. I think my wet-dream combo would be trans red with a black PG. They are my two favorite colors and I've managed never to own a bass in that color combo. If not that, Olympic white or trans white with a tortise shell guard. Or maybe black with a tort guard. Any input? This is definitely not the most important issue though, haha.

FYI, i did have an ash/rosewood, PJ-5, and it was one crap kicker of a sad. terrific punch all around. the ash body gives a very forward feeling punch, and because i personally cant stand maple necked Pbasses, due to the P pickup's overall boxiness, the rosewood smooths things out nicely. i remember shawn at the epifani shop said it was one of his most favorite sad's that he saw in the shop, and that man has seen MANY sadowskies. but if you dig maple necked Pbasses, go for it!
as for the pickups, do a search in the pickups forum. TONS upon TONS of info.
IME, the fat stack is the smoothest sounding pickup. very even sounding and not alot of extra midrange chew. about as opposite from a single coil J pickup you can get, yet still stay in the Jbass realm. frankly, it may be too smooth for some.
yet, in my 70s positioned sadowsky, its quite awesome. has a nice evenly smoothed out burpy kick. i'd say its aggro'ish sound falls somewhere btwn a sadowsky having regular 60's pickup positioned humbuckers, and my friend's marcus miller w/ its 70s positioned single coils. and yet, think FATTER.
but, in your case, a fat stack in the regular 60s position of the PJ setup, coupled with the P pickup might be too smooth all around. the Sadowsky P pickup needs something with a little more midrange aggression, and think a Big Single would be a great match!

Most definitely. That's still my best sounding bass; one I grab for gigs reflexively. Love dem single coils.
