Well here's one photo at least of the new to me, proto 4-24. Hard to see in photos, but it has a Black Pearl finish which has a nice bit of sparkle in it.

My first Sadowsky, I think I'm in trouble...

And did I mention it only weighs 7.1 Lbs

Dude, I played that bass right after it was built at the shop in Brooklyn. That bass seriously has one of the most comfortable necks I have ever played. Congrats, all the best with it!

Thought I'd share some pics of my recent purchase.

UV70 5 string in olympic white with tort guard...

As you can see, she's a beaut and needless to say, sounds...well... just great ! The vintage tone control is VERY good.

Aesthetically beautiful too (as you can see in the pics).The morado fingerboard on this particular bass is absolutely stunning !

I'd like to thank both George Ganakas from Bassgeardirect in Sydney, and Roger Sadowsky himself, for all their assistance related to my purchase. Customer service par excellence from both Gentlemen.

I'm really surprised too, I'm sure that the fact that I never keep it in its case has a lot to do with it. It's always on its stand when I'm at home.

This is my 7.7 lb P4 build taken in the portabag before I even touched it, right outta the box.

The finish on this bass is simply stunning.

Funny thing, I assumed being a 1.5" nut width neck that the string spacing would be 19mm. Silly me, I didn't think to ask about the string spacing before I bought it, so at 20mm it's a little wider than I am accustomed, but after a few hours I have to agree, a very comfortable neck.

I'm really surprised too, I'm sure that the fact that I never keep it in its case has a lot to do with it. It's always on its stand when I'm at home.

Does it get any UV exposure? Sun, full spectrum lights, etc. Hardwood will darken from exposure to UV. It's especially noticeable with lighter woods like maple, ash, etc.

Hint to those who install maple wood floors like I did, open all the shades and don't place any furniture, rugs or anything on the floors in the room for a few weeks to a month to allow even "darkening."

Yep gotta watch out for those Ultra Vintage rays

Natural light will do it, even if it's reflected. Stage lights for the most part shouldn't be an issue unless they're mercury vapor, but if you use black lights on stage - that's another story.

The good news is that I really love the look of old darkened maple necks so I'm happy with how things are, I wish the neck and especially the headstock were darkening as quickly.

Hey Mike - I'll always remember us going through the build wait & similar shading of the '59 burst & close delivery dates.
I highly recommend anyone going the build route to spring for a change out of PG. It's really refreshing to see your squeeze with a new dress on as desired.

Alan, the PG on my bass is mint not gold. ( that is unless you were suggesting that my taste sucks. )

Regarding Jay, he loves playing music. I stopped teaching him on the electric bass a year and a half ago, when he started studying DB; I didn't want to 'saturate' him, but lately he's been picking up the electric on his own and improvising lines or playing the stuff that he's learning at the conservatory. His teacher is very happy with him and I'm proud of being his dad and his first teacher.

Just picked up this killer 1994 I was told Will Lee may have gigged this bass for a while...
can I come back to the club...

That is a real find! It certainly looks like many of those Sadowskys you'd see Will playing with the clear pickguard, pickup cover, etc. Either way, what a stunner!

Your right Blair we went thru the long wait together. I got mine just right before you got yours and when I seen this photo I was so mad at myself for not getting a pic with Roger and my Bass. I am still in love with mine and thats the best compliment I could ever give it.

On another note: I've just spent the last few hours A/B'ing a Lakland 44-94 up against the Sadowsky Prototype #2.

In terms of versatility, they're pretty much on par with one another. The 44-94 does have the upper hand when it comes to the "Ray" sound with the MM pickup in the bridge position, but the Fat Stack still produces a nice deep growl - just not as "wide."

Otherwise, due to the Fat Stacks being able to be switched to single coil, it's pretty close.

And I think I may have been born to play 20mm spacing, it's just feeling much more natural to me than 19mm. Funny how the added 1mm distance per string really makes a difference.

My fave is 19mm, but I can do 20 as well. What I can't stand is tight spacing a la 16mm. Drives me right round the twist.

I think that a US Lakland and a Sad NYC make for a great toolbox. I really hope to sell up my 5502 to a 5594 one day.
