If you're a die hard Fender Purist; the Sadowsky thing might not be perfect for you.

Easy to find out though. Call the shop, order one up, and use the approval period.

I actually feel that the traditional Sadowsky sound (HC pick-ups-4 string ash/maple), sounds like a really good Fender with a lot more consistent fat low end thru the whole range. The difference I've seen with many Fender J's is that they only sound like a Fender in their "sweet spot" on the fingerboard.

I've played some great Fender J's in my life including several early 60's J basses, and several custom shops. I wouldn't have traded one of them based on sound and playability for my Sadowsky metro. Of course some had great Mojo (so did one old Sadowsky I played that was owned by David Barrard [Dr John]), sentimental value, and all of them were worth more money. But if I had to work for a living with my bass, I'd chose a Sadowsky over any Fender I've played. IMO

I've just been re-reading the "Full Circle" article about the re-introduction of the Acoustic 360 bass amp in the May 2013 issue of "BassPlayer". It's a fridge but has always been one of my favourites & the improved preamp has got my attention. It might be awhile 'till it's stocked here because of it's size / weight & I'm curious if anyone has had the pleasure of running their Sadowsky through one in a demo situation. The REAL way to audition it is to get way out front with a wireless. Quite the amp for large venues! John Paul Jones' J bass is probably a good reference.
I recommend reading the article, if nothing more.

They are a classic, and no doubt the Accoustic head was the first reliable high power solid state head with a good tone. But are they building the identical cab? Because the old 360 folding horn cab was designed for stadiums. And it's best and fullest tone came about Sixty feet away from the cab. You'd kill people in most clubs with that cab, not to mention the fact it was hard to hear yourself (at least with any clarity)unless you were on a big stage with a wireless rig to get away from the cab.

The cab is the same front loaded 18" folded horn designed by Cerwin-Vega.
The problem with acceptability, as you say, is that this rig needs lots of room out front to come into it's own. It's long throw focus puts the sweet spot of tonal appreciation at the "back of the room". Not that practical for clubs etc. I worked for awhile in my younger days for a small company, building JBL bins & folded horn cabs for stage PA's & got to hear a variety of these folded horns in a concert environment. It's amazing now efficient they are at projection.
