Thanks everyone. It was a huge relief to get promoted. More responsibility, more accountability, more authority, and more money. Now, I get a bit extra time to study for the next promotion test...they make you sit out a cycle before taking the next one.
I know I'm not as active on here as I used to be, but I can't get away. I pretty much check this thread, the classifieds, and the Aguilar threads in Amps.
FWIW, the only ship time I have done so far was for combo gigs during Navy Week(s) last year. Show up, load in, play combo gig on a flight deck, load out. Between July of 2012 and June 2013, I performed in front of approx 11.3 million people on bass guitar, double bass, bass drum, cymbals, or in a support role (driving, load crew, etc) for Navy work.
They let me freelance outside as long as it doesn't interfere w/our gigs. So, some months, I don't sleep much between inside and outside work. E.g. if I'm lucky, I get a 5-7 show/week theatre gig, sub out 1-2 nights to do Navy gigs, do a few ceremonial gigs during the day, and a poetry Slam Sunday night...and buy Monster by the case.
Actual bass/Sadowsky related stuff...
I want another bass to keep one Sadowsky at work, and have the other for freelance/practice at home. I've thought about it since I bought this one back in 2010. I see myself ending up with either an R5-24 or an MV5-24.
I like the brightness, how they sit in a mix (combo, rock band, horn rock band, wind ensemble, theatre pit), extremely stable neck, and feel. I've done three setups on it since I got it in 2010. One when I first got it, one when I was in Virginia, and one when I got back to Chicago.
