Club Sadowsky!!!

I took my new 24-5 out for its first gig last night. Restaurant gig with only keys, bass and singer. R&B and loungy pop. It's always a "moment of truth" gigging a bass for the first time. What sounds good in the living room or showroom doesn't always cut it on stage. Granted, this was a bare-bones line up, with no drums or guitar, but still, I've played basses that didn't work so well in this kind of environment. Turns out the modern fit the bill perfectly. I love how articulate this bass is across the spectrum - from the lowest notes on the B to the upper register. A total blast to play. :)

I agree, the difference between Sadowsky 12" and Nordy compound is pretty subtle. Love 'em both.

I own and have owned basses with even flatter fingerboards (my old Warwick Streamer Stage I 5 was the flattest with 20" radius), but the Sadowsky feels fantastic.

My only (slight) nitpick is neck profile. I've never played a nicer symmetrical profile than Sadowsky, but I wish that asymmetrical was offered. I realize that it wouldn't be worth it for Sadowsky (and most other manufacturers) to do so because demand is too low for that feature... I'm just frustrated that demand is too low for that feature: I think it's brilliant; perfect for my hands. </whine>

No kidding. When I first got "And Justice For All" (on vinyl) I thought it was defective. Where's the bass? Ridiculous!

Ok, I've owned way too many Sadowskys over the years.
And while they all were great, some were outstanding.
My first Will Lee (Sok monkey owns it now) is one.
A very early Metro RV4 I had, KJung was pissed I bought because it was sick.
Also a ash rosewood NYC standard with singles was another.

But this chambered alder/ebony fingerboard 24 JJ 5 I have right now.
Sweet mother is it just killin.
I'm gonna do everything I can to never sell this one.
I may get insanely nailed for taxes next year, and this was bought knowing I could flip it quickly, but after a few gigs and rehearsals......This one has some serious mojo going on.
Why it floated around and didn't find a solid home is beyond me.

It may, just may, be the best 5 I think I've owned.

At 15 years old, that performance was when I first heard (and heard of) Sadowsky and the seed was planted...

Hearing Will Lee on the tonight show that same year (and finally recognizing what bass he was using) cemented that thought: "Wow those basses sound amazing even on TV!!"...
Fast forward to tonight, just got these cabs in the mail: :hyper:

As the owner of two metros I was really excited to take delivery of a second hand (1999) NYC jazz bass.

Arrived the other day and I went over it minutely, perfectly as described and as per the photos, fantastic. None of what follows is any reflection on the seller.

It was in a slightly strange (to me, each to his own) state of setup, zero relief, buzzing on the first few frets and also the nut, and I'm a -very- light player. The saddles were high as high can be in an attempt to compensate.

No worries, like I said who am I to say how someone sets their bass up? So I eased off the truss rod a quarter turn and put it down for half and hour. Came back to find crack opened up in the back of the headstock, starting at one of the screw holes for the E tuners and running an inch down the back of the neck across the grain.

Disappointing doesn't quite cover it (and it was such a nice neck, sigh)
