The VTC knob is wearing a lot faster on mine.
I feel I should be using the preamp more than an occasional 10% on just the bass.
That's what happens tho'.
Is it just a bad habit?

Not a bad habit, when it's working for you...
... I'm sure it's hard to find the elusive balance we all seek, whether it be musically, or our everyday lives...
... when you do find it, ride it longer than '8 seconds', and you've won...

For me;
I typically have VTC at about 50%
And treble and bass boosted just a tiny bit.
After that it's blend adjust for this and that.

Bass boosted maybe 10%
VTC rolled back 20%
Mid switch engaged (stock WL setting on dip switches).
Bass boosted maybe 10%

Favoring bridge pup just ever so slight. Just when it think I have it right I may favor the neck pup just off center!

So many flavers of awesome! I do find that I set the Preamp just little above flat these days and leave it, Than tickle the VTC to taste as well

You guys are giving me a lot to think about... after all these years, I concentrated mainly on playing the songs correctly...

To the P/PJ5 crowd ...
If you haven't already:
1) Flatwounds
2) Foam Mute at bridge
3) Dial the P pickup
4) Play through a loud rig
This gets a Sadowsky fully into PBass territory. IME, most Fenders (excepting a few amazing Pre-CBS basses I've played/owned) have more decay after each note/less sustain, and IMO that's where a lot of that classic thump comes from. Roger's instruments are, to my ears, so much more responsive and have so much more sustain/note clarity that it puts them more into a 'Fender-inspired but still modern' territory.
Or, do what I do and work the crap out of your right hand muting technique.

I've had my Metro PJ5 for some time now and it's a beast. I love it. I've kept the pups centered just because it sounded great and I'm used to a passive JJ setup so I just left it that way. No breaky - no fixey, right? Lol. Last night I favored the P pup just so slightly and got the OMG moment..
What have I been doing this whole time? I'm not a big fan of the P sound per se, but I don't know why I didn't just give it a little nudge before. Blew my own mind and felt a little silly in the process.
It sounds SO good - I don't get the woof from the P, but I get all the articulation from the J that I really like (and it's not scooped!).

I did a similar thing a few months ago for the first time...
I favored the J pup a bit, added some more low EQ to compensate, rolled off a little VTC as well I think, and voila... a new tone I had not previously experienced! A little more 'barky', but with the fullness I normally had with the 50/50 PJ setting.
Every day is a new adventure with these fabulous instruments!

Those voices are saying go black and add a shot or four of expresso. Dial the tone knob full on, slight bass and treble boost to taste and enjoy the ride...
See... voices... and they strangely sound like Christopher Walken...
Ok so it's not as bad as the Emojis describe but I just put my first Ding on my Metro PJ5. Granted, I bought it used (near mint, mind you) - but this was MY first knock. Ugh.

Our local long and McQuade in Vancouver currently has a nice deluxe satin modern 5. I didnt play it but I did try the metro modern 5 they had I really liked it. But my main gig is pretty much all pbass territory
I love my Sadowsky P Bass , it is a NYC . Solid alder body , nitro finish , Braz rosewood fret board , nickel bridge 8 LBS , I have not looked at this video I did years ago for a long time , man it got some hits and man I was fat . Funny how you can look back and see yourself , much better now I should do another one , I have had flats on the bass for years now , it had rounds when I filmed this. Such a special bass , I just sold my ash maple 5 I had for years , time for me to get a ash maple 4 standard , I have a little hole in my heart not having a ash maple jazz Sadowsky . Here's the vid
I always liked the bass in this video. Still not bought one, but certainly would be tempted if the right one came along. Glad you are still playing it Craig.
