One of the best thanksgivings I had! Feels more like Christmas!

The super J pickup is pretty sweet. It’s cool that you can actually hear the subtle differences in the 60’s and 70’s position. I haven’t played it in full volume yet but the I’m really digging the 70’s position and the pickup in parallel.

Bass sounds as good as I expected! Put on a fresh set of sunbeams and Roger nailed the tone I was looking for in a P/J setup. The bass also comes in slightly under 8lbs on my scale so that’s a huge plus. Worth every penny and days I spent waiting!

Here is my Satin 4-21 #7291 purchased pre-owned from the Sadowsky site (with Peter Amos's help) in September. Finally had some time to take a few photos (was too busy playing ). Quick review: best bass I've ever played, hands down. It weighs a scant 7.78 lbs, I have barely touched my other 3 non-Sadowsky basses, and am plotting my next purchase - a Verdine White signature Satin P-J, or a Metro HPJ. The Satins are just the coolest! The lower price point allowed me to own a NYC bass, and the finish looks fantastic and doesn't show fingerprints. Did I mention that it plays like buttah? The $ from selling the other 3 basses should fund Sadowsky #2 and I will be all set! Does one get a "number" in this club? If so, deal me in!

That is one sweet looking bass! And oddly enough since owning my first Metro Sadowsky just a little over 1.5 months ago, I have been plotting madly on acquiring another one and thinking a 4 string PJ is most likely top of the Gas list.

I really find both tones extremely useable and the gain isn’t that far off. The active sound is great but I find myself liking the passive mid range voice that I get for fast songs. Anyway I’m back in the Sadowsky fold and as always after gigs I have fellow bassists come and ask me what I’m playing because it was sounds so present in the mix. I know “pics” or it didn’t happen so here is one from the prior owner.

I've played mine on some Motown stuff and some lighter acoustic, and passive can really help out in those settings depending on what you need. Sometimes the pre-amp has too much punch or is a little too tight for the style, so I switch to passive. Play around; if it sounds good out front, it is good.

I need to do this more with my MV5-PJ. It works so well in active mode for most material, I actually forget it even HAS a passive mode sometimes. Then again, if I really need to nail a "Motown-ish" vibe, I tend to reach for my Am. Std. P with flats. Or my Mustang PJ with flats. That said, there are many times I only have the MV5-PJ, so I need to explore the passive world more often!

I agree that active and passive both sound good, but even though I don't often use onboard EQ I prefer to have it available, even with my Brazilian P5 strung with flats which is my Motown/vintage bass. On that one I usually roll the VTC back around 40% for warmth, and bump bass when needed. If I want more presence it can sound great to bump treble while rolling the VTC back (perhaps further).

I play like This 99% of the time. With that VTC rolled all the way off ( maybe just a smidge of bass boost) it’s like I have my favorite studio bass tones live.

VTC is the key. I use that knob more than any other.
