He was jealous! He had to have a Sadowsky after seeing how spectacular my bass turned out!! His 2 Custom Shop Fender Strat and Tele sold in a week and the Sadowsky order was placed.

Had my tech re-solder all connections in my UV 70 and install Nordstrand NJ5 single-coil pups -- wound to 70s specs. Also blasted the pan pot with silicone lube and worked it in big time. Bingo, the bass is back from the dead and sounding terrific. Can't make a reliable comment about the tonal results because I'm playing through an Aguilar db359 (all tube) amp. But I can say the overall tone is cleaner and warmer than I expected. A pleasant surprise in fact. The highs are less raw than with the Sadowsky hum-canceling pups, the tone and volume are indeed even across all strings, the lowest notes on my E string are no longer mushy and the B string is tight and solid sounding. Gotta say I'm impressed with these pups. And thrilled to have my Sadowsky in tip top shape again.

yea,

roger did make a 6 string modern for his japanese audience, which has its own thread around here, but has expressed MANY MANY MANY times that he's not interested in making one again. he's more than happy building us the best non 6-stringer ever.

So, what kind of difficult questions should I pose to Roger (on video)?

I would be interested in knowing what Roger looks for (maybe hears in his mind) when he is looking for pickups to use for his basses. The reason I would be interested as he has recently expanded his line to include the Nordstrand Big Singles, but not other pickups from the Nordstrand line (although you can get them if you ask nicely). For example, I have an NP4 and an NJ4SE in my PJ4, but I understand for the PJ4 Roger normally uses Dimarzio set. I would love to know what he is looking for in pickups and what makes a pickup "make the grade" for a Sadowsky instrument.

Actually....The few 6 String Sadowsky's in Japan were Made In the Japan shop. They have Nothing to do with the NYC shop. They were Custom built for the Overseas trade shows.

Oh.....And don't expect to see a 6 string from the NYC shop anytime soon! Won't happen!

I'm curious to know WHY he won't build a Modern 6. Maybe I'm missing something here? It just seems that, in light of the popularity of 6's in modern music (especially in Urban Gospel) and factoring in that Roger makes, IMHO, the best combination of articulate and modern married to fat and vintage, he would absolutely shake the market at its foundation. Even if it was only a NYC option, I bet at least 10 or more TB'ers would instantly order one.

When I had my Metro M5-24, I strung it with an E-C set just to try it out, and DAMN if that C-string wasn't more musical sounding than any of the twangy C strings I've encountered on 35" scale instruments. IMO/IME of course.

I think a trip to Japan with a ton of cash is in order....

What do you mean..He just gets his parts from Warmoth. Right? They have plenty of six string necks and bodies.
