I really love the strings that came stock on my new Metro from Japan. Are those the Nickle version of the Blue Label?

I think I remember reading somewhere that they usually use the blue nickels.

Nice. I ordered some Labella FLs, but if for some reason I don't like them I will try these Sadowskys. What other flats do you use and how do they compare to the blue labels? I currently have some Chromes on mine and they are quit good too.

I have used Chromes for the last 3+ years on my P-bass, and really like them. Having said that, I think I might like the Sadowsky Blue Labels better. Tone is great, and the feel and tension are a little more natural for me (and I never really considered the Chromes to be overly stiff.) I highly recommend giving the Blue Labels a try.

The WL4 had taken a back seat in recent months to my Metro MV5-24 and (more recently) a Fender Tony Franklin P-bass, but it's hogging nearly all the playing and gigging time now!

When I asked about it 2 years ago about my UV70 metro Peter replied
"Our basses generally come with our SBS45B-BLU (for five-string) or SBS45-BLU (for four string) strings."

I must add, they replied super fast, they are the nicest guys. It's nice to see how people back top quality products with great customer service.

Just logging in for the first time in several days, so pardon me if this has been discussed recently (or a thousand times prior), but I put the Blue label flats on my Metro WL4 recently and... WOW! That sound is just amazing!!! Thump, grunt, pop... tone for daaaays. That could be a lengthy explanation. I'll just add two cents:

* Flats have a more vintage tone
* Pro to flats is that you can go a looooooooooong time between string changes... if you like the sound of broken-in flats, anyway (some prefer the tone of fresh flats)

Very likely. And you could also go with the James Jamerson technique of putting a chunk of foam under the strings near the bridge: it increases punch by decreasing sustain.

I think of the basic difference (flats vs rounds)...flats give me a more dominant fundamental, with less overtones...

To add to what has already been said in response, the beauty of combining flats with an active preamp - especially the extreme versatility of the Sadowsky preamp - is that your tone is not limited in the same way that it might be on a passive bass such as a Precision (I totally dig flats on a passive P-bass, by the way.)

More than ok. They are perfect for it.
