Hey guys quick question, I bought a set of Sadowsky pups from someone and am wiring it into my Sadowsky preamp now they have green and red wiring, not sure which is ground and which is signal. Just a quick answer if anyone has done a pup install thanks !

Today I put my deposit down for #8226 on the stock page. I’ve been wanting a Modern 4 for a long time. After playing a few at the shop a couple of weeks ago, I decided to pull the trigger! Can’t wait to get this one in my hands and on stage!

Speaking of pickups... just swapped out the stock Sadowskys in my Modern for Nordy Big Splits. And it was a chance to use a Tech Box I just snagged on eBay. #almostpro

These will go a little better with the stuff I normally play. I love the Sadowsky pickups too... so clear and modern. But the bass will get more use now along with my PJ5.

And, as a weird side benefit, it's like 5 oz lighter now... 8lb 7oz down to under 8lb 2oz.

I did the same thing to my bass a while back, but I found that it became to bright sounding. So I later swapped the bridge pickup for a series wind DC5, and we added a push/push pot for the series/parallel switching. Much improved!!!

Thanks! I remember reading your post on this as I was doing research before pulling the trigger. I really appreciate your comment and may do the same, eventually. Neck pickup is fantastic but not sure yet on bridge.

Which pot did you change for the series/parallel switching?

First of all, my bass has maple and ash, so it’s going to be brighter than yours so it might not be necessary. The Big Splits blend well as a set, maybe a little better than my current Big Split/DC5 setup...but my setup does sound really good (I actually got the idea from a CB Bass I saw). The bridge pickup for the Big Split is very poky...and both of them have tons of treble, it was overall too bright. But I really liked the neck pickup, and I wanted to give this a try and it’s working out. If I were to replace them again I might try the new Zen Blades because I’m a fan of sidewinder pups.

So to answer your question we replaced the Volume pot to do the series/parallel switching. My local luthier didn’t have a push/pull pot in stock, but he had a push/push pot so he used that. The series wind DC5 does sound better in series, the parallel setting is a big thinner without that low mid emphasis...so I can use that setting for a softer sound and kick in the series setting for a nice boost. Overall the bass is not as bright as it was with two Big Splits. It’s a nice setup, and I don’t plan to change it anytime soon.

Can anyone please tell me about the hardware on the NYCs vs the Metro/Satin? I see that one is Hipshot USA, the rest are not- Not sure about tuner differences either. Is there a big difference in the hardware sets on the different lines? Thanks!

The Satin Series and Metros use Lic. Hipshot Hardware. A few years ago Lisa and I had an in depth discussion about this. In the bridge there is no difference at all. The mass of both bridges NYC and Metro were identical. The Lic. Hardware (tuners) is pretty much the same. Offering Lic. Tuners and chrome only allows for a lower cost without Sacrificing quality.

Snagged this lil' sweetheart after letting go of my WL5. The only wood/pickup combo I've never owned, and it looks like these early Satins were made as alder/indian rosewood configurations instead of Pau Ferro. All due respect to Pau Ferro and Pau Ferro's family, but I never have been a fan. Certain 'sploink' to the note when slapped that I've never cared for.

Really like this setup. I've only owned ash/maple Modern/M5's, and the combination here of alder/rw warmth and that Ken-Smith-esque pickup configuration is exactly what I was looking for. Always thought that the neck pickup soloed is reminiscent of a Pbass, and the warmth of the wood combo brings it even closer.

Only thing I'm contemplating is whether I should throw some super-aggressive big singles from Nordstrand/Aguilar. Because why not right?

Side note:

The smooth candy shell finish on these basses makes me want to bite into it and see if there's any nougaty-goodness underneath.

Does anyone remove the battery from their bass when they fly with it? I just saw some YouTube videos of people having their pedalboard ripped apart by TSA to take out the batteries.

Ill probably end up having to check my Portabag when I fly in a week and wasn't sure if this was necessary.
