Sadowsky has used different P-bass pickups over the years. My 2005 P5 has a Duncan... I think? My 2010 P5 came with a Nordstrand NP5. I assume you're curious about whichever is currently being used, but I don't know what that is -- or what they are, if there are options.
I have not heard the Sadowsky soapbar so I couldn't answer your question regardless... just here to point out the complication.
Thanks for info. My vintage P4 is, i think, 2015 build (i'm traveling and don't have the build sheet handy). Don't know who's P pickup is in it though the cover says Sadowsky.
I'm curious about the the tonal comparison between P and soapbar because i am thinking about getting another Sadowsky model and am hoping to hear from someone who has played both styles. I did own an RS4 and found i was not a fan of the J sound so i was able to replace the RS4 with the vintage P which is wonderful. So, wondering about the soapbar sound in general as compared to "generic" p sound.

The pickup in my 2010 P5 is branded Sadowsky. The Nordstrand giveaway is the offset/diagonal polepieces. I have no idea how to tell the origin when the polepieces are not offset -- maybe the shop would know?
Will testify to matching photo...you guys perfectly captured the Caribbean Sea with mine.
I believe (correct me if I am wrong) the non-offset p bass pickups are made by Seymour Duncan to Roger's specs.
All of Roger's PUs are made to his spec.
Correct, the offset p bass polepieces indicate Norstrand.
The Humbucking Jazz are Dimarzios.
The Single Coil Jazz are Norstrand.
I'm sure Roger has collaborated with many other PU manufactuers over the years.

So I took the drive up to the Sadowsky Store today. With my new bass and kid in the car. We get there and Roger greets me and takes the bass and and gives me its history which is pretty dang cool. He did a quick set up looked it over and we discussed a few things about it. And then he drops some serious science about the onboard preamps and soldering and wiring. Words can’t express how truly humbled I felt when Roger took the time to talk with me about my bass and do a quick set up job and look over some string options. I seriously have no words. And the kid was with me (engrossed in his game) and Roger spoke with him and gave him a place to sit. I mean Class just seems like such a small word for how Roger and the staff make you feel. Family is more the word. You feel like Family and are treated this way. Again THANK YOU Roger for the Hospitality and for dropping some serious science on me today.
The Sadowsky NP5 is usually paired with an NJ5S for the PJ set. The main difference between the stock Nordstrand and the Sadowsky version is that the Sadowsky version has additional copper foil shieding around the pickups, other than that they are pretty much the same.

That’s what I have had to do my last 2 sets of pickups.
My NYC 5-24 satin deluxe in caramel burst came in a few days ago. I haven’t been able to put it down since. It is a big upgrade over my metro MV5. It blew me away with superior playability, quality, tone, and weight. Thank you Roger for building such a phenomenal instrument!

Speaking of pickups... just swapped out the stock Sadowskys in my Modern for Nordy Big Splits. And it was a chance to use a Tech Box I just snagged on eBay. #almostpro
These will go a little better with the stuff I normally play. I love the Sadowsky pickups too... so clear and modern. But the bass will get more use now along with my PJ5.
And, as a weird side benefit, it's like 5 oz lighter now... 8lb 7oz down to under 8lb 2oz.

That bass is beautiful, even without pickups
String question time. I have been very busy this summer gig wise so getting lots of playing time. I am playing a Metro RV5 with a Genzler rig. I found the Sadowsky Blue Nickels were lacking the mid punch compared to the Blue Steels. However my steels seem to be loosing the mid presence and noticed during my Saturday night gig. The current steels were installed in June so about 3 months old. I used to play EB Slinkys on Ray and they would last for a year but I didn't gig as much with that bass and string combo.
I guess my question is how long do the Sadowsky strings typically last? Should I be trying something new?
It has been a hot summer and I am an aggressive player, but very careful to wipe down the strings and bass after playing. Any help would be appreciated. I do like the sound of the blue steels.
