Club Sadowsky!!!

My MIJ MetroLine RV4 (HC pickups) is as silent as a submarine in my very RF-unfriendly house (multiple dimmer switches in every room). One of my favorite things about this bass.

Which by the way, Sadowsky preamps seem especially prone to pickup up noise. I.E. radio stations, hum, electrical interference, etc. Any way to minimize? I've had several Sadowsky's now and they all seem prone to this.

Preamp layout and board are certainly different on my NYC 2010 and my Warwick Sadowsky PJ. Top 2 are NYC, 3rd is Warwick Sadowsky PJ. I've had pickup from my phone on the PJ, but not noticed it on the NYC jazz 2019

My Sadowsky basses are among the most quiet I own, so this sounds really strange to me... except for maybe some of the early Nordstrand pickups that went out on some which didn't yet have as much shielding on them. But generally speaking, I don't think it's a preamp issue anyway. It's almost always pickups... especially with single coils, which of course only so much can be done anyway.

I can also confirm, my sadowsky is the quietest bass I own. So silent that I had a pickup die and not know it for the remainder of a practice. Agreed that pickups may be at issue here.

i agree. that either is, or is similar to, the t whale burst, which is what my new one is going to be. probably look a lot like this except ebony board and both the super pickups instead of just one.

Hey Scuba, that is certainly an issue. But, I don’t believe the preamp is the culprit. My first Sadowsky was an RV5. It was phenomenal, except that when I stepped on stage for this gig:


(ca 2005)...the bass / amp / FOH nearly exploded. The problem was that neon sign behind me. The solution for that gig was to balance the pickups and leave it there for the gig.

More recently, I was struck by the single coil bug again, acquired some beautiful Ulyate’s, installed them in my Jazz 5 w/ Sadowsky preamp; and bang, there was both the single coil sound, but also the single coil hum. Shielding in the cavities helps, but doesn’t eliminate it. My Delano JMVC5’s we’re back in four days later. The only solution I’ve heard is there is a preamp that Pat Wilkins uses, which includes a dummy humcanceller, kind of like the Alembic Series preamp.

it would be great if Roger could navigate an upgrade to his preamp to incorporate a dummy humcanceller under the pickguard. That would allow single coils with no hum. But, until that happens, we’ve got this trade off.

Don’t know if any of that helps or not.

That's a unique product made for presentation of the warwick/sadowsky deal at NAMM...
It is a collector piece and it price is sky high!!!
Chances that I ever put my fingers on this board are very, very, very small!!!

I have been using Hipshot D-Tuners since ‘87. Just about every bass I owned had one. My Modern 4 is the only one without it. They are a big part of my playing!

I was thinking it was a Japan one which would make it a bit older. I haven't owned a Sadowsky for a couple years now so I'm not up to speed on how the new location is viewed.

After 10 months with my lovely custom NYC 5-24 #8602 (best bass I've played, bar none!) I'm feeling the need for a Metro RV4 in Burgundy Mist. I'm retiring my Burgundy '63 Jazz from the road, and thought a nice used Metro in the same color would be appropriate.

I've scanned the inter webs (Ikebe, etc.) and seem to have missed a few recent offerings. Please give me a shout if you spot one for sale!
