THanks, I didn't know that. I wonder what the weight difference is between 4xstandard tuners vs 5xultralight, if any. I much prefer the look of the standard tuners (although we are talking about minutia detail), good to know it would have to be a special request to get the tuners I like on a 5! :D

Well....I got my new(to me) NYC P/J5 the other day, and man this bass sounds HUGE. The front P pickup sounds like a P should , yet a touch more modern. I was also considering have the front routed for a reverse P , which always just a little more sense to me.The action is super low and is in great overall condition. The only thing about it was , I felt like the ALL black hardware was a little over the top. so I put a chrome Bell cover and nickel screws on the guard and POW, it evened it out for me. what do you think?? Then I was thinking......ya know...maybe a mint green guard would look great too, so i pulled my black guard all the way off to do a tracing and HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!! It was already routed for a Reverse P!!!! SUPRISE!!! wow, awesome. And...the route is also big enough for a single, so...Im get a few guards made now to accomidate any combination I want. I will let yall know what the sound difference is. Im playing Bourbon Street tomorrow (Lundi Gras) which is the day before Fat Tuesday as a regular P/J. Then on Tuesday, (Mardi Gras) I will pull the guard and reverse the P and play with no guard and see how it sounds.....

Well... for me...I like the sound of a P but always thought the reverse was a better idea. You can still get a P sound , but it evens everything out. Well let me tell you.....this sounded like a different instrument. It really tighened up the B,E,A and rounded the D,G. It gave me back the focus I was looking for, yet I can still blend the rear pup out and get my "P with a pick" tone. So....this is going to my luthier this week and its getting 4 pickguards made. 2 for the rev P (one mint, one black) and 2 with a front Jazz. I will have the capability of have 3 different configurations!!! I will do a full single coil (neck & bridge) swap to go to a full Jazz.

Very cool. From what I've read from others on this topic these options are a great learning experience in helping you figure out what your sound is. Based on others passed experience you will probably settle into your preferred setup and make few swaps in the future.

Good luck, it's pretty cool to be able to make all those adjustments.

Thanks again for the nice comments! I still haven't got a 'bass is shipped' message, though... I had to wait 7 months, which were long, but bearable overall, but now that I know the bass is ready, it's killing me!!

As for the '59 burst thing: It was a toss between natural and the '59 burst, but I found the burst very nice looking and I don't regret my choice.
I've been thinking about my next order already, though. I'm dreaming of a standard 5 with a custom shaped neck, the bridge PU in the 70s location etc... in a deep-blueburst (so deep that you could actually take a dive in it ;)) on a quilted maple top *dreams*...

EDIT: From going through this and previous Sadowsky threads, I learned that a custom shaped neck is possible on a NYC instrument, but I'm wondering if a non-standard string spacing (narrower than 19mm) would be possible too. Although I doubt it, asking doesn't hurt I guess.

Oh well, before that will happen I've got to do a hell of a lot gigs and summer jobs first :).

IIRC, Roger offers two different width options for the 5-string necks. He also offers a narrower 4 string bridge (Tal Wilkenfeld uses this). I don't know if he also offers a narrower 5 string bridge.

I spoke to Roger about this a few months ago... he suggested buying a Hipshot "A" style bridge as an option if tighter spacing is required on a currently owned bass.

$100 or so and you are set.

Thanks for the info, guys..., but I don't have my 5-banger yet (I even haven't got the funds yet), so the original question was more like: will it be possible to ask for a string spacing, narrower than 19mm when ordering a new (NYC) 5-string, not as a 'retrofit' on an existing instrument. I'm sorry if I was unclear about that.

Didn't Roger post on here somewhere that he is now offering an 18mm spacing option for 5 bangers????
I thought I read that. :confused:
