Here is a picture of my Sadowsky Vintage J 5-String and my Sadowsky Ultra-Vintage P 4-String . I let my kids name my basses. The J is named "Crush" and the P is named "Buttercup". Of course I had to take the picture in front of my sofa:) The P bass is about 2 years old and the J bass is only 2 weeks. Every time I pick up a Sadowsky, I smile. And I must state that dealing with Roger (on the 1st purchase) and Kevin (on the 2nd purchase) is what's gonna keep me going there for future basses. Oh, and the basses rock too:)

I guess it's an optical illusion but the "crush" seem to have a very oddly shaped upper horn. Anyone else see that in the photo? I'm guess it's the slight angle of the photo.

Yup, it's an optical illusion. I'm not a very good photographer as you can tell. BTW, I see another illusion in the photograph. Take a look at the top left side of the pickguard. Does that look like a little white ghost to you? I swear I didn't do that to the photo.

Can I get a number?

The Sadowsky J upper horn is very different from a standard J (thinner and narrower). The 24 fret version shown in the picture is even 'more different' than the standard J style upper horn (even narrower and longer). The Sadowsky P upper horn seems to be closer to the original.

You can see it pretty clearly if you compare the very traditional Alleva J body style to the Sadowsky next to it.

You can also see it clearly in the pictures of the 24 fret (which is actually the 'modern' body style), standard 21 fret, and PJ/P models in the NYC 'in stock' page on the Sadowsky site.

Per the above, +1... but even the standard Sadowsky J (vintage or standard 21) has a thinner, narrower horn that a true J body. I actually like the sleeker look of these downsized and streamlined bodies myself. That 24 fret takes it a little too far from a true J look for me, but the standard 21 fret vintage/standard Sadowsky is IMO perfect!

Wow...talk about an optical illusion...I almost thought I saw an Air Supply CD in the pile behind the sofa....

Nope, no Air Supply:) My CD collection is about 95% jazz.

Buttercup is definitely not a manly-man's name for a bass, but the way I see it, she's one sweet bass. And it hard to get a sweeter name than Buttercup. They are also big fans of The Princess Bride, hence the name.

I'm not sure if some of the other names of my basses are much better. I have 2 Laklands named Chilli and Candy and my Rob Allen Deep-4 (the most beautiful walnut you've ever seen) is named Woody. Oh, and a gorgeous all koa Santa Cruz Guitar Company flat top guitar named Allison.

But just in case, I'll smack 'dem kids down a little tonight:)
