Club Sadowsky!!!

NBD-German Sadowsky Metro WL. Ash/Maple. Have to admit I wasn’t happy with the Sadowsky/Warwick deal—I’ve had Japanese Metros and a NYC and was skeptical about Warwicks involvement. However, this WL is 7.4lbs with outstanding fit and finish—sounds great. It may be my favorite Sadowsky so far—I am proved wrong. View attachment 4702554View attachment 4702553

Since you have MIJ Sadowsky experience, how does the fret wire compare? Are they exactly the same? I've owned/played several Warwicks and I swear those guys are all about fret mass - the bigger the better. I'm in the opposite camp. Much prefer the smaller, more vintage style fret sizes.

A question (or two) for owners of the German Metroline Limited Editions. Is the preamp similar to the NYC version with the screw down solderless pickup connections? Also, how much of an issue is the early snap on cavity cover? I read where the tabs broke after a few times. Thanks.

The snap on cover can die in a dumpster fire! Mine broke pretty much on the first opening, albeit without actually opening the cavity, because the frickin' cover broke! However, it got repaired under warranty, so theres that.
Anyway: The pickups are soldered to the preamp in my 2021 limited edition.

Edit: added a picture for good measure.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping for non-solder for easier pickup swaps.

Congrats. The low weight is outstanding. Is it chambered?
I have that same Metro Will Lee (2021), but in a 5 string and it comes in at under 8.2 lbs. I read on here a couple months back where Roger stated the 2021 Metros were chambered.

EDIT: Link to Roger's statement about 2021 Metros being chambered is below:

I kinda figured, but it never hurts to hope. What model RSD do you have? Any noise issues? I’m really thinking about picking up a five string fretless RSD as a back up/dive bar counterpart to my NYC fretless.

I have a RSD ME 5-21 JJ. The pickups are not noiseless so I will have a hum when the pickups aren't balanced - the typical Jazz single coil issue. The electronics themselves aren't noisy.

Rehearsing for Sunday's service last night and our acoustic guitarist had his battery die. 10 minutes later he was back.

In the next song I started getting a funny warble-like sound out of my Sadowsky - indicating my battery was dying as well. I pulled out the Tone knob to go into passive mode and continued the song. Since I wasn't boosting either bass or treble there was no change in my tone or volume.

AG player looked at me and said "That's just not fair."

Congrats. The low weight is outstanding. Is it chambered?

And, can you describe the fret ends? I was told they are buried.

I have a Warwick Sadowsky Will Lee RW4 coming in July. Alder/Morado/Gloss Black. I was told to expect the weight to be low 8lbs. 7.4lbs is a featherweight.

I have gassed for one for years. Now it's happening.

If it is chambered I can’t see any seams…. I believe it’s just light ash myself. It is notably lighter than my former NYC Will Lee, which was ash as well—but it had a quilted maple top. The fret ends indeed are imperceptible to my fingers, so I guess buried is the right term.

I loved that NYC, but sold it to help pay a friend’s medical expenses—in the four years that have passed since then, prices soared and I rued not being able to afford another NYC. This more than made up for it.

Be really excited for your upcoming arrival, it will not disappoint! Congrats

I’ve still got the Japanese Metro, so side by side, I can’t tell the difference in the two in terms of fret size. I’m as surprised as anyone, but it seems they kept the “Sadowsky-ishness” in it—at least in this Will Lee model.

Thanks. I am excited. @B-Lo above linked a post by Roger @Sadowsky confirming these to be chambered.

Have you taken the pickguard off?

Even though I live in NYC I’ve never been to the Sadowsky showroom. Part of it was not wanting to spring for a NYC. I have little interest in fancy tops but the chambering was attractive. The Kikuchi Sads were very tempting but the Warwick specs now make it an offer I can’t refuse.

wow that's SUPER SUPER light ash... maybe show a close up pic of the side of the body? They do a great job of matching grain especially when it's a natural finish like that. But yeah at least from that top shot, I can't really see a seam either... that's a RARE piece of ash these days if it is solid!

I wondered about a side seam too. Also, could a pocket have been taken out under the pickguard?

I saw Foghat in Las Vegas last night, it was a great show, they really brought it. The bassist, Rodney O'Quinn, formerly of The Pat Travers Band had great energy and tone, he really captured the original bass lines. Of particular interest was the bass, a '55 P bass style with what appeared to be only 1 jazz bass PUP, and perhaps a Sadowsky logo. Maybe a full- blown custom? I'm not really familiar with the Sadowsky custom shop.

I don't think that is a Sadowsky. This bass also has two J pickups from pics.
