Is there an off-the-shelf Hipshot that would fit on Metro's? I would like to install black on my Metro, I called Sadowsky and didn't get much help. To be honest, I actually thought Kevin was kind of rude to me, don't know if they were busy or just caught them at a bad time, but he was pretty short with me. He then sent me to Roger, who was pretty short too, and basically told me the same thing as Kevin did. I was kind of dissapointed, I was expecting some good laughs and jokes, but that wasn't the case.

I'm not trying to put down Roger or his crew in any way, just disappointed me because this was my first experience with Sadowsky and I've always thought VERY high of their instruments, and I never even played it! It's always been on my dream bass, one those instruments you'd imagine your playing, but look down and it's a Sqiuer instead. Anywho, in the future, I plan on purchase a new bass from them, hopefully the experience will be better then the first.

I am sorry if we disappointed you in any way. Last week was very busy for both me and Kevin and I am sorry if it affected our customer service in any way. But even in the best of times, we are pretty much "business only" so don't expect laughs and jokes in the future either. You can expect us to be friendly but "to the point". Regarding your inquiry, we do not offer black hardware for Metros. If we did, it would be on our online store.

Thanks Roger. Wasn't trying to put you or Kevin down in any way. I guess it I was anticpating a lot more when I called and was maybe let down? Doesn't matter, it's no big deal, I understand that when people are busy, they just don't have time to chit-chat. No hard feelings!

Last question, I would like to get a white peraloid pickguard for my Metro, do you guys recommend me sending my old one in?

Kirk, you need to send it in. I've tried several times to swap guards between my NYCs (I've owned a bunch) and they are cut so tight to the neck pocket, control plate, etc. that it's very hard that one fits a bass it wasn't shaped for.

I went to a show last night for a popular "modern country" act and the bass player was playing a Sadowsky PJ5. It was the richest, fatest, warmest, deepest, add your favorite adjective here tone I have ever heard.

I'm pretty sure his was an NYC, but I'm thinking I need to consider the new Metro PJ5. :help:

Regarding the Portabag, how stiff are they? I'm trying to decide between a Portabag and an Incase Slim.

The Slim looks like it offers a little more protection, but the trade off is that it's heavier and has less storage.

The Portabag looks great, weighs less, and has more storage. I just want to make sure that it'll protect my NYC as I would expect before I get one. Anybody know when they will be back in stock?

I've got one of the older Ultralite cases made by US case (IIRC). It's a very nice case as it fits my stuff perfectly, but it's so far off balance because the handle is right in the center of the case. It's very annoying. The handles also hurt my hands...

I've also noticed that, and in particular, the Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard and Alder body seems to be used often for these. BIG HUGE sound. Not as biting as the J's but definitely still sits in a mix like a Sadowsky should, and the bigger sound is really great for stuff like blues, rock, and R&B in particular.

I played the ash/maple Metro at NAMM and was very impressed. It didn't have the same size to its tone that the alder/rw combo does tho.

IMHO, get the Portabag.

I have both, and while the Slim does offer a bit more protection, the Portabag is perfectly fine, and I find I really appreciate that extra pocket space. I still use my Slims, but the Portabag is used most.

Definitely BIG and HUGE but not overbearing in the least. Totally sweet. So much so, it has me rethinking my set up. :(

That's pretty much what I was thinking...I just wanted to get that little push :)

Here's another question someone may or may not know the answer to. Would a Pedaltrain Jr. fit in the front pocket? I'm not sure I'd want my pedalboard in there (for weight and the fact that it would be essentially sitting on my bass), but it would be nice to know the option is there. Less items to carry is always a plus...

Yeah. I currently own one of these, tho I haven't officially updated my gear page. I'm really more of a J guy, but I've been massively GAS'n for a Sadowsky NYC PJ5 with the Alder/RW thing for years for certain settings. Played it at church yesterday and it RULED. Uber sweet tone and such a rich low end it really brought those low notes out for those nice sustaining pedal tones on certain passages. Who needs a pipe organ pedal section? NOT ME! :) Also gigged it with the blues band the previous week and it just had that phat tone goin' on.
