It is the same bass other than these two differences. Most likely you'll be able to fit a Metro pickguard on a MS4. A control plate however is not possible unless routing the body, why would you want to do that... just get a MV4.
BTW, I custom fitted a Metro pickguard on my NYC std J, just because I can't get used to the string-body distance. I attached it with a double sided tape, no screws so I can always go back without damaging my bass. I don't care there is no control plate, looks kinda' cool to me.

nenor, thank you for the reply. I have my rv5 up for trade and one of the trade offers is an ms4. I'm just not crazy about the look of a J-type bass without pickguard.

I'm not sure why one would have to route the body to install the plate. Wouldn't if just be as simple as pulling the knobs and associated pot nuts off and screwing the plate down?:confused:

No, the knobs on the MS models are in a different place. if you add a control plate you'll need to fill the old holes and cut the body to instal the new control plate.

Open the backplate of your RV5 and you'll see why it needs to be routed.
Actually, it won't work anyway because the knob placement is not the same on the Vintage plate vs. the Standard body.
Oh, I see Fran was on it before me...
Regarding pickguard, you can also order the "half PG" from the shop. About the control plate, I suggest to get off the idea.

Nope, that was yesterday morning for an actual service, tho at a different church. It did great, but I was using a different bass for that service. This one ran DI/IEM's only, which is what the more contemporary church I play uses.

Hi

Hey Vic. Literally just got home with it. Whatever the factory setting is for now until I monkey with it this weekend. I had one of the shop basses for a couple weeks and left it the way they set it up. What Will uses. I liked it that way. Ill play with it a bit. The maple board might make me change my mind. We shall see
