Strings are the Sadowsky stainless blues, and hum canceling pups. I'm actually a little surprised at the tone on the thing. I was expecting it to be very bright and a little out of control. It actually is pretty tame - the Metro PJ has a bit more sizzle. The more I play the NYC though, the more I warm to it. The Metro is a little easier to play and get a tone out of the box (there is a slight action difference), whereas the NYC is more dynamic and needs to be worked a bit more (but has more room to work if that makes sense). It is subtle though. When I switch back and forth I keep thinking, "I like this one better."
The joy of a sub-8 lb bass is massive though. As for how it sits in a live mix, I'll have to wait as I don't have anything scheduled until a new years eve gig unless something pops up (which it likely will). Just messing around the house playing with loops and along with songs the NYC does seem to pop out in a mix a bit more. I think it is the burp that pushes it whereas the PJ has more low and mid low. Funny because I actually adjusted the P pup down a bit as it just had so much low end it swamped the bridge pup. With the NYC I raised the neck pup a bit to get a little more low mid in it.
Still some tweaking to do and breaking things in. The biggest issue is just learning where all the sweet spots are for finger positions. The JJ seems more sensitive to right hand position and attack than the PJ.
Well you did found the club
I'm glad that the organization is in excellent hands.
+1 on the on the right hand pos. and finding the sweet spots. ive been playing M5-24 mostly for a while but i just ordered a vintage modern 5 ash maple with SC's im looking forward to playing a jj again it will be my first NYC bass. is your PJ alder/rosewood ?
2) "How much more black could it be?"....."None more"
No frets, graphtech nut, sharpie over the pole pieces and the knob lines, black anodized jack plate, black beauty strings (as posted earlier), done."How much more black could it be?"....."None more"
I can't handle it.
I'm well on track for a Sadowsky purchase in May of 2012, and I've been saving for a almost two years already. It's going to be my 40th birthday gift to myself.
By the time I order my Sadowsy and join this club, I'm pretty sure I'll have spent more time saving up for one of Roger's axes than anyone else who's walked into his shop. I queried them on the specs and stuff I'm going to want, but I'm kind of embarrassed over how far off y purchase is going to be, so I don't e-mail them very often.
I'm just hoping that the Canadian dollar hasn't dived into the nethers by that point, or that prices haven't gone too much higher. That would be... disappointing.
One day soonish...
