This makes sense, and I guess I can remember on rare occasions (prior to me having the more punchy and mid present single coils installed) when a bit more mid presence was needed (with the HC's, that wide Q 500hz would punch them up a bit). Seems like a bit of a small idea, but I guess it doesn't change the inherent sound of the preamp if you leave it alone, so no downside.

Hello, all. I'll be posting my MV5 pic soon, but I DO have a question for general consumption:
I have had two Sadowsky 5s(a UV70 MW5 several years ago and a MV5 sb now)...both amazing sounding instruments, but both very susceptible to AC interference noise, especially dimmer issues on stage. So much so that I can't use my bass in moderate to bad dimmer circumstances, which necessitates going to my 55-02 for a bail out. Has anyone else encountered this, and if you did how did you deal with it? I ended up installing singles in the UV before I sold it, but would much rather stay with hum cancelling pickups on my current bass.
Nordstrand split coil NJ5 work for anyone? Those are the only retrofit that I am aware of other than DiMarzio Ultra Jazz, which LOL I basically already have.

My NYC's are quiet as a mouse, and if anything, less impacted by dimmers, etc. than most other basses I've owned.
Interestingly, the one Metro I owned for a short time was VERY much impacted by 'noisy AC', etc. So much so that I had to get rid of it. So, not sure if it was just that instrument (the guys at the shop checked it out and said it was fine prior to putting it up for sale on consignment). I have a 'bad AC' outlet impacted by flourescent lights, dimmers, etc. that is a good test of this. My NYC's passed with flying colors, my MV5 did not (in active or passive mode). It had the stock HC's in it.
Since you don't hear of many complaining about this, must be something going on that is not systemic with some instruments.

I have been at the forefront of hum reduction and shielding since the 70's. It is still a mystery to me why one instrument might be more prone to AC/dimmer/varilight interference than others. One of the reasons I stopped using active pickups years ago was because they were more prone to these interferences.
Always try to rotate your position and see if there are one or two points where the interference drops out. Hopefully, your butt will not be facing the audience when you hit the quiet spot

It's also dependent on which model, and the age, as Roger uses different types of pickups as well as going through different versions of those pickups in some cases.
Case in point, my Metro is just as quiet as both my NYCs.

Dammit, for some of us that's our best side.
I have a UV70 with singles in it and I have no issues live. I know that when I am at home or practicing by myself, I hear the typical hum, but nothing so far at any club where I actually hear it. I must be one of the lucky ones.

Your situation is the norm. It is not a matter of being lucky. Also, we are not talking about single coil hum but about AC noise issues.
