I have sent Sadowsky all of the money for my bass except the last $775.00 and gonna send them the remaining $775.00 in a couple more weeks. That way we can lay all the blame of my club membership being delayed on Roger and the gang. LOL. I AM READY TO GET THAT BASS ON THE STAGE WITH ME. Dont want anything on my end to hold things up. Got a long wait but its gonna be worth it.

This is a new thread so I will repost what I ordered.

Vintage Jazz 5
Ash/Maple
Figured Maple top
BirdsEye board with Vintage tint
Caramel Burst
Tort PG
With Single Coil PUPS.
60's PUP Spacing

I had the green Sadowsky in my avatar for 8 years and then sold it...now I back with UV70. Love the fullsized body. Now, I need a PJ4 and a #, please!

#276. welcome :)

Yeah in a real soft hitting player..
but if i have my P Pup that close i will get a wolf tone so i have to lower my pup a little..
You know that sound if a pick up is to close to the string. its a weird wobbling sound.. Then i lower the pup to about 3/16ths on the G string when fretted at 21 and the wolf tone goes away.. mmmmmmm
Its real obvious on MM basses... Or did i just create one more thing for us to pick apart..:D:)

It's mostly the angle of the photo, but I do like a medium low action with a pretty small amount of relief. I usually "seat of the pants" my pickups at 1/8" from the string to the pole on the bridge pickup with the string held at the last fret, and bout 2-3x that on the neck pickup. Then I tweak from there.

I'm currently trying to do a lot more with more subtle dynamics and I find I can have a more nimble and bouncy bass line if I can use a lighter touch. I also find I can get a lot cleaner tone and a better/longer effective note decay if I hit the string in such a way as to not distort it too much (aka really digging in hard). There is a really cool dynamic you can get by playing hard, but I'm pursing the other side right now.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about, except I think you're talking about having your pickups even closer than mine if you're saying the P is at 3/16 with the G string fretted at the last fret. I'm typically at least 1/4" on the P pickup with the G string fretted at 21.

Ken, that is some instrument you've got there. I love it!

Thanks! I've played a bunch of them and owned a few, and this is the ONE for me. I've had zero Sadowsky GAS since I've owned that one (which is what happens when you get an instrument that totally speaks to you). I have a couple of other basses that scratch my 'Fender/vintage' itch, but this one does the 'modern J' tone as well as anything I've ever heard.

It's just 'that Sadowsky sound' to my ear, and it just feels so SOLID while not weighing a lot (it just throws your thumb off the neck when slapping). They did a wonderful job on this one! I have to say it again, putting the Sadowsky singles in this slightly more dense and heavy non-routed ash/maple Vintage spec just brought everything together for me regarding that classic 'Sadowsky J' tone.

I also continue to love that unusual spec of an ash/maple J bass with 60's pickup position.... while it takes the tone a bit away from a classic J, it is a cool combination of the upper mid grind and big bottom that many associate with 70's style J basses, but with the ability to burp and growl when digging in and/or favoring the bridge pickup that many associate with a 60's style instrument. Really cool 'hybrid' type of tone that really works in a mix, and still sounds 'J Bass' enough to keep me happy!

I'm sure many others feel the same way about their Sadowsky basses also.
