I was watching those in my ebay, but couldn't justify a use for them. I thought your PJ came with a reverse P and you already ordered a standard P from sadowsky, tried it out and swapped back to original. This is a standard P again right? So was the set of PJ that you ordered from sadowsky not Nordstrand or am I missing something?

You're missing the fact that his bass has the older PJ set in it, and he wanted to try the newer Nordstrand based set. It's got nothing to do with reverse or normal positioning.
Nice, I like that pickguard. You could also go without a pickguard or control plate and show off that gorgeous top. But, that does detract from the vintage look though.

The set he ordered from Sadowsky was a new standard P, but he flipped it back to the older reverse P. So I guess my point was the ones from ebay will not be a direct comparison to the set currrently in it since one is a reverse and the other is standard. This all presupposes I am understanding this correctly.
The piece you're missing now is that the pickups aren't different. To switch, all you need is the other pickguard. I don't believe that there are any design variances between the PUs themselves with the PJ and the reverse PJ. (at least I hope not
) I think it is simply the positioning. I bought these to hear the differences between the older Duncan-based PJ, which my bass has, and the Nordstrand.
I had considered several options. I was thinking about starting with a stock Nordstrand NP5 and leaving the existing Sadowsky HC in the bridge position -- thinking I could swap it out for NJ5S if it didn't match well. But, this was a chance to score the set for what just the neck PU was going to cost me.
Plus they have the Sadowsky covers, which is a nice bonus!

I used the same PUs. The only thing I had to order to swap back to the conventional PU layout was a pickguard.

They may have done what you're doing, and decided to stay SD. Personally, that wouldn't be my choice, but it's not like the SD's sound bad. Roger has sold them to many happy customers in the past, tombowlus being one of them.
Probably something that would not be very noticeable.
Here's an interesting note...
Ironically, Fender's American Deluxe Precision V (discontinued) had it "wrong" and did exactly that. They put the A string on the lower chunk and made that the three string chunk, so the upper chunk was only the B and E. Basically, making the A solely "reversed" as compared to a standard 4 string P bass. I've also played one of the newer American Precision V's, which are "correct", and it sounded pretty much the same to me.
IMHO, the forward/reverse diffs will be more significant on the lowest and highest strings, but I haven't really tested for that specifically. This is just from subjective perception playing them (FWIW).
Please avoid any references to "our" bass in the future. It is tied for second on my "basses that I sold but really, really miss" list. It's quite upsetting.

I had one with a pau fingerboard around 2000, sold it, regretted it, and bought the maple boarded one I sold you more recently. Fantastic bass... truly... but I only need one PJ5, and the Sadowsky simply beat it out for my prefs. Otherwise, I'd still have it.
