Club Sadowsky!!!

Trick or treat! May I have one of your basses?

I love that clip. I love Michael Rhodes. I love Vince Gill. Brent Mason frightens me.

+1, Michael Rhodes is one of my favorite bass players. He just grooves and throws in some cool licks. When I have a guitar player say that country is easy, I like to show them any Brent Mason clip. From what I understand, he doesn't read sheet music, just a great player from just playing.

+1 He's all over that Vince Gill 4 cd set of original tunes. Amazing recording... each of the 4 discs represents a different musical style: classic country, bluegrass, country rock, and 'modern country/pop'. Amazing tunes and rhythm section playing.

Didn't Rhodes kind of push for the PJ model, or work with Roger on the design or something? Can't remember, but his tone is just fat as heck with that thing.

+1, I would like to know if Rhodes was part of the reason for that. I would also like to know what he's running it through. I've seen him play a Pino and another 4 string Sadowsky and just killed 'em.

Thought I would post this here as I expect you guys to be experts on everything Sadowsky. I will soon be getting a Fender Jazz Bass Special ( MIA ) that has been retrofitted with a Sadowsky preamp, including the VTC control. I'm assuming that the VTC is the same thing as the tone control on a Fender Jazz ? If not, what exactly does it do, and how does it interact with the treble control? Also, on the Sadowsky site, it suggests to start out with the volume up full. Since it can go from active to passive, I'm wondering how the level is affected when going back and forth from active to passive ? Does the level drop considerably when switching to passive mode ? Any other tips or suggestions you might have would be welcome. thanks !

I think you are right. I remember he had something to do with something involving the PJ. Maybe Roger will dip in and give us the back story if we are remembering correctly.

He's just such a smokin' player.

Michael is smokin' for sure! I really don't recall any specific backstory, but both Michael and Hugh McDonald were among my first PJ5 customers. Michael did bust my balls for many years to make him a gold anodized pickguard for his PJ5!

Roger

SO glad he did!!! A few years back I had an idea for a 'dream PJ5' that looked like a 59' Pbass (gold guard, sunburst, rw board) but sadly the gold guard wasn't available.

When I saw that this: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] was available, it was like the Bass Gods were speaking directly to me!!!!

VTC functions just like the Fender tone control you're used to. Pull it out to bypass the pre.

With both treble and bass boost (stacked) turned all the way down, the passive/active volume change is not huge, but it is a little louder in active mode.

Add just a touch of bass boost and/or treble boost to suit. I use a little bass boost and just a hint of treble. You don't need a lot -- it's powerful. Cranking up the treble or bass boost is not a good idea, IMO.

Hey guys out there in SAD-LAND I have a stunning bass that I just picked up which is virtually a "clone of a clone" as one Sadowsky owner said when he saw it.

Is it permissable to show you guys what the bass looks like ??
Many of you may not be familiar with these basses. :hiding:

Check out Andre Lauer- "The Bullet" on youtube live at NAMM 2010 slamming away on one !

This bass is one of the most playable and best sounding instruments I have encountered in somewhile--obviously owing to its Sadowsky strong influence.

TINO employs the Aguilar OB-1, perhaps not as far reaching as other preamps-particularly the famous Sadowsky preamp. My TINO has Nordstrand pickups.

So if it is cool or anyone would like to see the bass I will gladly attempt to upload a pic. :hyper:

At first glance you all will mistake it for a SADOWSKY :scowl:

Hey Lionel, I sent you a PM re playing your Coppolo when I'm in Toronto.

Can you compare the Tino Tedesco Jazz to a Sadowsky and Coppolo? What do you like better? I read how great you thought the AC is and was hoping to get a good evaluation of all three. Maybe even a pic?

Thanks!
